Yngwie Hits The Road And The Bookshelves

Last Updated on February 7th, 2020

Yngwie J Malmsteen never slows down – certainly not on guitar, and definitely not in his work ethic. Yngwie is on the road right now promoting his new album Spellbound (which features some of the most extreme neoclassical guitar magic of his career), and he’s also just released his autobiography, Relentless – A Memoir. We recently caught up with Yngwie for a chat, which you can watch here:

Yngwie’s revolutionary guitar style—combining elements of classical music with the speed and volume of heavy metal—made him a staple of the 80s rock scene. Decades later, he’s still a legend among guitarists, having sold 11 million albums and influenced generations of rockers since. In Relentless, Malmsteen shares his personal story, from the moment he burst onto the scene seemingly out of nowhere in the early 80s to become a household name in the annals of heavy metal. Along the way, he talks about his first bands, going solo, his songwriting and recording process, and the seedy side of the rock business. You can learn more about the book and order it from this page on Yngwie’s site.

We’re proud to work with Yngwie on his YJM Fury pickups (which you can buy separately or as standard equipment on his signature Fender Stratocaster) and his signature YJM high speed volume potentiometer, which allows. Yngwie (and anyone else) to achieve smooth volume swells and speedy between-song mutes. You can buy the pots at our Seymour Duncan Style site.
Of course, Yngwie is harder on his guitars than most players, so when he needs pickups for his personal instruments we have to custom fabricate metal baseplates to keep the pole pieces safe when he beats on them like they owe him money. Here’s an example.
