The Fender Custom Shop has announced a new Gold Top Limited Edition Dusty Hill Bass, modelled after the instrument Dusty is currently using on the road with ZZ Top. And like pretty much everything to do with ZZ Top, from their vehicles to their clothes, Dusty’s bass is not just any off-the-shelfer: it’s packed with custom features.
Dusty’s signature P Bass features a custom-designed Seymour Duncan Stacked P Bass pickup, a unique custom neck shape, and rear-routed controls which allow him to do away with the more standard front-mounted top plate found on typical P Bass models.
The bass features an Okume body with binding on the top and a unique nitrocellulose lacquer metallic gold Relic finish. It also has a one-piece quartersawn Maple neck with reverse headstock, a 9.5” radius fingerboard and vintage frets, and vintage wiring and hardware.
