    Default help with Jazz?

I just got a Jazz Bridge/C5 combo put in my Epi LP Custom yesterday... man, the C5 sounds awesome! Tight low end, crunchy, doesn't mud under too much gain... not the best metal pickup but for midgain rock it sounds great! Really clear articulation, string seperation, punch, good cleans, I think it's exactly what I wanted out of a bridge pup.

The Jazz on the other hand... it has a very sweet lead tone, but the low end is VERY muddy, but with and without distortion. I've done some adjusting of the pup height (I'm working on it more right now) but I can't seem to tighten up that low end! Has anyone had this problem, or should I just keep tweaking?

On a side note, the electronics in the Epi are still stock but I have .047 orange drops and guitarworks pots waiting to be put in... I learned how to solder yesterday

So should I tweak, replace the electronics, and then figure it out? Or is the Jazz perhaps not the neck pup for me if I play mainly rhythm and clarity/punch/string seperation in chords (especially in the bottom end) is my top priority? I play on a Mesa Roadster, which is pretty bassy itself, but the C5 sounds AMAZING and tight and the SD description says it has "extended low-mids."

Pearly Gates, Full Shred, Screamin Demon come to mind. I dig the slightly vintage vibe of the C5 and prefer to keep that characteristic for the neck pup.

    alex,

I have the same exact problem with the jazz, although it's in and alder-bodied Ibanez. I don't think it's a bad pup, it just sounds thin, a little too bright and the bass is muddy in my guitar.

I also have a C5 in the bridge, love it and want similar characteristics out of my neck pickup (how it has that sort of vintage vibe to it, yet it's still modern) That's why I have a PGn on order.

Did i get it right, you both have the Jazz Bridge pickup in the neck?
Well if you dont want to change to a Jazz neck you can fool around with magnets, which is a lot of fun btw. A Alnico 4 or a Alnico 2 could cut the mud, the A2 would make it milder (warmer and more mids), the alnico 4 simply cuts the bass and is quite similar to the A5.
