Default please someone give me advice

hey how are you guys doing, i recently picked up and epi les paul standard ( because im poor and i cannot afford the real one) anyway as you can tell by my name, i love 80's hair metal bands such as ratt and van halen. i was wondering what would be a good set of pick ups or pick up combonations for this type of music from SD. i was told by a sales person at Guitar Center that the SH-14 "Custom Five" was great because it was very versatile, he said it could go from a screaming metal riff to, smooth and bluesy. he told me to check this sight out so i did.

now i did some hwk and im stuck between three choices, ( but you if any of you people have any different ideas and advice please share im open to anything) the SH-14 "custom Five",

    the LW-HMET "LiveWire Metal Humbucker"

    and the SH-10 "full shread"

please help me out i really don't feel like putting anything that looks like an EMG (the LW-HMET "LiveWire Metal Humbucker")
on a les paul (like a Zakk Wylde Custom for instance) but if its the only one that sounds good i guess.... and so far thats the only one that sounds *****en, anyway leave one here and thanks...

I think a Custom 5 in the bridge and either an APH or a Pearly Gates in the neck will be a great combo. This should give you plenty of juice for all of the hair metal riffs and solo's...both hard core and soft and sultry. If you find the Custom 5 too hot in the bridge, exchange it for a 59' and you will be happy.

Good luck...and I like hair metal also.

Well, Vito Bratta of White Lion used JB, GL used Distortion, I think JB in the bridge is fundamental to eighties pop-metal/glam stuff.

I was gonna say JB also. If there is one SD pup that means big hair metal, I'd say that's it. But, really, through the delay and chorus etc....a 59 will do just fine, as will a distoriton, or a custom or whatever! I say JB bridge, pg neck.

I'm not a big fan of the JB, but it is "Hair Metal". Go with either that or a Duncan Custom. The Duncan Custom is alot tighter to my ears.

I use the Custom 5 in the rear of one of my Pauls and the Aph1n in the neck and it is a perfect combination. nice and full but with clairty.

I didnt like the JB in my paul..... was thin sounding to my ears.....

Are you going to keep the guitar forever? If not, keep the old pickups if/when you switch them (for resale purposes).

As for old school metal, I'm not sure, maybe Custom 5, or Full Shred.
