By 1979 LZ had been in the crapper for several years already...
After further review, it looks like the 1973 Zep Tour was their best live work.
IMO 1973 definitely would have been the high tide of their live career.

Agreed, the Madison Square Garden show, which I believe is '73, were the best performances from that DVD, along with the Rock and Roll performance from the Down Under Press Conference. After that Plant's voice didn't seem like it could sing those songs the same way again (Rock and Roll being a specific example, look at the 1979 Knebworth version off that DVD).
Though the Knebworth show had some very good songs, especially Achilles Last Stand. It just seemed like the band had melded into one musical entity during that song, everything about it was perfect, to me anyway.

Crankin' a Gibson Les Paul and a Fender Strat into a Crate V32, in an attempt to deafen those who don't enjoy good ol' fashioned blues and rock n' roll

they still had it in em in '77. i have a chicago bootleg, i think 'destroyer', that, well, destroys!also, earls court '75 was brilliant! i think knebworth is pretty damn good too though.
