Default S. Deco Custom Shop pups?

These are Antiquites that are wound significantly hotter and with a choice of magnet right? How would you compare them to Ants and other Duncans? Are there S. Decos that wont be nasaly and chirpy like many Ants are? That is my one problem with the Ants though they are great pups. Would these do it for me?

Please don't take this the wrong way, because I don't want to start an argument. But I have to say that my antiquities in my 1957 Reissue sound nothing but nasaly and chirpy.

I think it is the wood of the guitar that is creating that tone.

By the way I too would like to learn more about hot antiquities.

I don't think agreeing with him will start a fight.

I will disagree with him by saying the PAF examples from Duncan I have heard were hollow in the mids (ie reduced mids), hardly nasaly or chirpy. I think perhaps you aren't explaining what you find objectionable as clearly as you could. Perhaps if you restate your description we could be more helpful.

i dont find the antiquitys nasal and im not sure what ya mean by chirpy.
i havent tried the s deco but i think youd like the alnico V versions better, i have a few over wound antiquitys (10k and 9.4k) and i think they are probably the best pups ive ever heard. i think steve tried a s deco set

My S Deco 5 @ 10.5k and mismatched coils arrived this week. I am matching it with an Alnico II Pro neck and I hope to have them installed tomorrow. Will keep you posted.

Sorry, i should have been more specific. The Ants are in my Les Paul and have A5 magnets. Stock they didnt sound nasal at all, but unfortunently were to dark and loose but still sounded good. I put in the A5 mags because i was after getting a pickup like the 59' but a bit hotter and rounder. The A5 mag has more of the punch and attitude i want and love about the 59' but unlike the 59' it sounds nasal with this magnet. They are maybe are almost to safisticated sounding to my ears also, when i play a guitar with a 59' it just scream "i want to rock!", the Ants have a different vibe but i understand why people would often like them more than 59's. So, im interested in the S. Decos because hopefully they wouldnt sound nasal with an A5. And because its from the custom shop maybe i could get them wax potted to decrease the microphonics (though the Ants were quite unless i really pushed it) and give a slightly more linear response while keeping some of the extra openness that i found in the Ants...

Oh and believe me, id never take offense at someone having a different opinion than me. And your right, unmodded Ants arent nasal at all, they sound fat and honky to me. If i ever get really into jazz or something, those will be the stuff....

By the way "chirpy" is one way i describe nasaly pickups. It just something i hear, some people know excactly what i mean, others dont, i cant really describe it but im sure everyone hears ity but just has a different way of describing it....

Could you give a little more description about the change the alnico 5 magnet does in the tone. I have an antiquity bridge, and I think it sounds great with low gain. But driven, I could use more edge and bite. That is why I was considering this mod. Thanks.

It sounds less midrangey and has a bit more bite and less soft sounding. Its brighter and to me sounds to nasaly but im sure some people love it.
