I'm currently arming a Jackson KV2 for heavy thrash duty and just ordered a PATB-2 for the bridge. (I'm gonna use my trusty DiMarzio Humbucker from Hell for the neck. I love its clean tones.)

I have high hopes for the PATB-2 based on reviews and forum comments. it sounds like it could be a SH-6 Distortion taken to a whole new level of destruction and casuality rate

    Some good options are:

Custom (not C5 or CC). Good output, but not overpowering. It is exactly as advertised, a PAF on steroids. Punchy tight bottom end with a lot of crunch. Great tone, and very balanced.

Distortion. Very high output, this will push your amp without you adding anything in front of it, like a tube screamer, pick up booster etc. Tight bottom end, different tone than the Custom though. It has more output, and it doesn't have that PAFish vibe.

Dimebucker. Again, very high output. I haven't seen it recommended, but it is a really good pick up. Sweet tone, very singing highs, tons of crunch. The bottom end is prominent, in that you'll feel the "thunk", but it has a bit looser of a feel to its bottom end than do the Custom or Distortion

JB. Output is really somewhere in between the Custom and the Distorion/Dime. The JB has a tone all its own, which make some people not like it. It does have decent crunch, and good highs, the leads really really sing with this pup. I think some of the complaints on the JB have centered around its bottom end being a bit hollow and not "mean" enough. Its really a matter of preference.

    My opinions anyway.

Hi, sorry for the late response.

I'm still not sure. So many pickups, so many recommendations.

I need something chuggy and heavy, with something for leads that will really cut through with quite a bit of mid (tired of shrilly lead sounds)

I've just got a Randall V2 head going through two Randall 4x12s

For some reason i'm swaying towards the Distortion still. Are there different types of the Duncan Distortion? Sorry for my noobyness.

There's only one SH-6 Duncan Distortion. AlNiCo V version is called SH-4 JB.
Then there is PATB-2 Parallel Axis Distortion.

I you need balls and tightness ,DD is your ally..The PATB2 is rounder ,fuller but looser. So playin songs like "impact is imminent" would be a tad mushy..Distortion gives you what you need!
BTW ,maybe the Fullshred can do it too! It's not as ballsy as the DD ,but shure really cool for thash ,fast riffage and cool solos!
