I think Duncan's noiseless single coil lineup needs a boost. I'd be keen on a set of Classic Stack Plusses with a bit more juice to them, or maybe a Five-Two Classic Stack Plus.

Do the Classic Stack Plusses jangle?

This is a great suggestion...What do you want to name that one Jeremy?

I suggest The Blackened Red Fish, or The Mugs Up or the Jangle Fist...
although the Single Malt is a cool name for a tasty new strat pickup

I think we need to let MJ name these. She did a fine job with Brobucker. Maybe it could be a *Brocaster* pickup or something.
Gibson LP Melody Maker -- stock, Epiphone Dot -- Jazz neck and '59 bridge, Fender Telecaster Blackout Deluxe -- stock, 90's MIM Standard Strat with Duncan Texas Hot Custom in the bridge.

Yes, that sounds perfect...the 5/2 Tex-Surfbanger! I have had the typical Strat problem of getting a great sound out of the neck and middle pickups only to have the bridge be too ice-picky...I'm gonna use Surfers in the neck and middle of my new Strat, but I'm afraid the Surfer bridge may be too bright (does anybody find this to be the case?). The 5/2 magnets in a bridge Surfer/Texas Hot may just be the answer.....maybe also tapped for a sweeter/beefier tone option?

Yes exactly the case with me! I use a Surfer/Surfer/Twangbanger,but lately I also like a Texas Hot Custom A2 bridge with the baseplate off of one of my spare Twangbangers alot...It's not a real beefy pickup, but it's got more than a stock vintage output bridge pickup...Still pretty jangly, but clear, complex, and articulate...Worth trying!

It was a bit tricky taking the TB's baseplate off and putting it onto the Texas Hot,as there's this copper strip that is placed over all 6 pole bottoms and soldered in two places onto the plate....I'd recommend getting a Fralin Baseplate instead, unless you're both patient and good with your hands and a soldering iron?

I was hoping for a bridge single coil for the next forum pickup too. I'd be seriously all over something along these llines John.

I would have liked to have seen a single coil ... Tele, Strat or P90ish. It's a cool idea but I think starting with a wide open field of view will probably generate something average. So I kind of lost interest in the project ... but I do like the idea ... it's a cool concept. I too, think challenge the group with a specific goal ... maybe better. However, if it creates something cool ... I'll jump in ... I could be wrong.

Thought abuot it - Jeremy's idea of a Tapped Hot Tele in a Strat version might be the best idea here... when tapped I think it should produce some quack with the middle pickup, when full it might be a nice screamer... I'll go with any magnet that would make it sound best... (well, yeah, as long as it's not a ceramic pup).
I think that without the baseplate it could make a good single coil for guitars using neck and middle coils. The middle pickup in my Nighthawk is high output but when I split the humbuckers it is tapped - so it works well with them in both modes...

I hope that we could keep this topic alive long enough so the forum would be interested in making the pup when we'll have another chance...

I'm really liking it. It needed shielding ... but after that I plan to keep it stock. The other stock guitar being my old Yamaha SA2000.

    good idea, and practical ...

I thought somewhere ~7K was about the max for 42 gauge wire though.

I like the tele pickup that MJ winds that's similar, and in a tele it works well with 5 way switching. I also have both a tapped Hot strat bridge (haven't installed it though), and the strat bridge pickup I wound at SDUGD, which is an APS ~9K.

Sounds like a great pickup idea. If Curly and Jeremy are both down with it, it's gotta be good.

Is 42 awg plain enamel the stuff that the vintage pups are made with?
