I find it alarming that state legislatures actually waste their time with this garbage! That to me signals a complete abdication of responsibility on real issues that need to be solved. And that my friends is neither right nor left.

Yes, they're doing it as we speak.

We have the country's most inept, corrupt, school district here in Portland that should just be audited, the dead wood fired or sent to jail, and just get on with it. Schools in Vancouver Washington don't have the problems this Portland School District has. When I lived in New York, I don't recall the schools having problems like Oregon has.

They even enacted a county tax for three years, where I actually had to pay State, Federal, AND County tax to fund the schools. Our local county jail regularly lets out, after booking, burglars, people arrested for low-level assaults and robberies, car theft, etc. Every day. Can't seem to keep the right people in jail due to lack of funding.

Now, they're talking about a Beer Tax, and a Sales tax, while keeping the state income tax, which is pretty high.

I don't get it, the incompetence.

Back to the point of the thread. This particular legislation is nothing new. All Pawn Shops and second hand stores, at least here in Oregon, have to jump through hoops to go into business. Anything that makes it hard for people to sell stolen equipment, fine!!! Breaking it down to the actual CD level is beyond ridiculous for a legislature to address. Yes, a real low money maker. I can buy DVD movies at the local pawn shop for $5 and CDs for $2.

I go to pawn shops to see, hopefully unstolen, guitars, tools, etc. Usually their high pricing scheme drives me to either haggle or walk away. The prices are terribly close to the retail price, new.

Yes, the level of competence at the governmental level is questionnable.
