Dimarzio PAF Pro My Ibanez PGM301 has three of the four conditons you mentioned (it's a hard tail) and it's a killer pickup in that axe. It would definitley get you the tones you described.
    Guitars:
    Fender Strats
    Amps:
    Marshall Jubilee

The only basswood guitar with SD pickups I've tried is the Fender Showmaster, but recently the PG+ bridge really has surprised me with how nice it really does sound. I would recommend trying any 2004+ Fender Showmaster and see if you like it. It's like a slightly hotter PG with an A5 magnet instead of A2. I think it's around 8.75k~9k ohm range.

basswood? i'd say stick with ceramic magnets.. custom, distortion, or dimarzio territory- air norton, air zone etc..

i'd definitely steer clear of the JB (from experience) and alnico II (just knowing what it sounds like) in basswood - the bass just won't be tight enough. i had a JB-7 in a basswood RG7621 - ugh.

as for the crazy 8? that could work. alnico 8 might have that tightness and attack you're looking for!

Interesting, I never thought of that. I have seen quite a few basswood guitars come stock with ceramic magnet pickups.

yeah, i'd say dimarzio seems to have an edge in the basswood department. i've never been a fan of basswood, but there are some really good guitars coming out recently that i must admit i like quite a bit

I have a ton of Basswood Ibanez' and I've had a lot of Dimarzios over the years. As I looked at my collection, it seemed the Dimarzio's have migrated out of the Basswoods and into other guitar types. The Basswoods have gotten more Duncans, and some custom pups I've made. The only Basswoods I have with Dimarzios now are the IBZUSA Dimarzios because I have some guitars I want to keep stock.

Normally for the Basswood shredder I'd say Dimarzio has the edge. But if you've never heard the PATB series, you owe it to yourself. I've had the PATB setup in a couple different Basswood Ibanez' and it's a slam dunk. It absolutely kills. All three of them kill in Basswood, as do the PATB Stacks.

The Crazy 8 will sound great in tons of different guitars, just like the Custom series. It will be very versatile. But it will absolutely smoke in Basswood. You'll have to trust me on that one for now. But the PATB Original Bridge will also smoke in there too.
