    Default New song...Tough Love

Something new the band has been doing so I recorded it sloppily and only a clip. This is also a tone test and way to get me learning on recording. I am NOT a drummer and this song is well above my skill level so dont critique that too much. All recorded with a single sm57. I can't seem to get a better tone recorded...grr.

EDIT: Last one was high volume, this is low volume and sounds a hair warmer..

the song idea is interesting, but to me both clips sound very muffled as if recorded through a blanket or something. What's the EQ on the amp and the mic-placement?

That's my problem. No matter what, it sounds as if it's recorded through a blanket. I'm using an SM57 slight off center angled in which is the best position I found and the EQ on the amp to get rid of the nasty top end was all screwy. I'm also using a target mic chord that's xlr to 1/4 inch. The mic goes into some radioshack audio mixer thing that I payed 5 bucks for. just some sliders and nothing else on it. My guess is that it's cheap as hell as well as the chord and soundcard which is integrated AC 97 audio. This is causing a crappy sound. Does that sound about right?

yeah, that chain of cheap components would be my first guess why it sounds bad.

Great playing man..I like the tone nevertheless.

Try more treble or presence, I just realized that the mic filters some high frequencies and in the band context (drums, bass) you HAVE to play a slightly "buzz" sound to cut through.

    Just my 2 cents.
