Default Completed FF XII this evening!

After 8 months/81 hrs of gameplay, I completed the main story line for Final Fantasy XII this evening. Not a moment too soon, either, as my strategy guide is about to fall apart. At the end of the Summer I will probably revisit the game and visit the optional areas I've not had a chance to really explore like the Necrohol of Nabudis and the Zertinan Caverns, get the remaining espers and complete the optional hunts, find/defeat all of the rare creatures, and collect the Zodiac Spear.

My final review on the game, based on a 0-10 score:

Presentation: 9.5 (The story is amazing, but still not as good as FF X)

    Graphics: 10

    Sound: 10

Gameplay: 9 (I think that the combat system could be more challenging, overall. I still enjoy it over ATB turn based combat any day of the week, however)

Lasting Appeal: 10 (This game will go into the history books as one of the best rpg titles ever; I will definitely be returning to take this game to the 100% complete mark)

    Overall: 9.7

Even if you don't like Final Fantasy, you owe it to yourself to play XII; it shows you the limit of what the PS2 is capable of. Played on a PS3 I found the colour/shadow detail/cell shading to be greater, gameplay to be smoother, the surround decoding to be be more full and panning more actively, and the lightning fast load times to be even quicker.

For those of you playing FF XII and wondering where I was when I took on the final level, here are the basic stats I had for each character:

    Vaan, level 63
    Basch, level 57
    Fran, level 57
    Balthier/Peneleo/Ashe, level 40

Everyone had Diamond armour or above. Vaan, Ashe, and Penelo had the Deathbringer sword (a necessity if you're hunting down marks or shield worms) and crystal shield. Fran had a Yoichi bow, or the one just above it. (I forget) Basch had whatever the most powerful melee weapon was available and a crystal shield (It's a hammer but I forget which one). 12 gambit slots for all characters, every enhancement liscence and every magick available. 3 mist charges and an esper for each character.

And what did you gain with all of that time spent of playing a game?

I've never really played a Final Fantasy game. I might buy one of the games for DS.

Averaging just 10 hrs per month?! That's less time per month than most ppl spend on a weekend watching TV. I watch zero television, and play for a couple of hrs, maximum, per week.

But, to answer your question directly. I play because it makes me feel good!

LOL, that puts it in a better perspective. I wasn't trying to knock you as I've spent my share of play time on gaming as well. I was just curious how you felt after finishing it.

Do these newer FF games play like the older ones, or do you have to play them online MMORPG style?

i'm over 100+hrs in my game, and just like what usually happens with me i get into this lull near the end of a game and do a bunch of side stuff and then loose interest. now is it just me or was the official strategy guide really really bad in terms of everything? i mean, its missing maps for most or all of the sidequest dungeons(at least in readable format....there are bits and pieces of them in the hunt section in very mini-map form). also they forget to leave out what bonuses certain weapons/armors have.
...maybe my expectiations are too high from using that versus ff7 guide

...this thread has inspired me to check...
111hrs, vaan/fran/basch are all lv 54, baltheir at 55 and ashe and penelo are at 53
van's using the zodiac spear, basch has the masamune(cat ear hoods on everyone ^_^)
have all quickenings and all licenses except for some espers
the strahl was just upgraded to go into the final dungeon area

...anyways have fun with the gilgamesh hunt if you havn't finished it yet, as i had much fun with that one(awesome music in that battle)

Haven't played XII, probably won't the newest FF games don't appeal to me near as much.

I'm working my way back through FF VI on Game Boy Advance right now. My wife also just finished beating IV on Super Nes.

    We're old school! LOL

well, I finished X but the playstation went with the wife in the divorce (it was her's to begin with). I haven't bought a new one yet because I have decided to play guitar instead of games.
