Default Humbuckers for a Swamp Ash LP

    Hi.

I have a Lp Studio Swamp Ash. I had the 490R/498T pickups, which didn't
bring out the best out of the guitar. The usual probs: 498T bright, too nasal,
harsh, unfocused and muddy under gain. Was good for some stuff though; 490R too dark, muddy as hell, unfocused.

I want to replace both pickups.

I've put a Custom 5 in the bridge, and after 2 months of trying it, it just doesn't match with Swamp Ash. It's got good treble, good presence, good output. There is good bass, but it doesn't seem solid or tight. The pickup sounds good, but not great. It's missing something to make the guitar sound alive.

Also, the pickup doesn't blend well with the neck when on middle pos.

As for the styles I play, it's everything. I have a jazz guitar for jazz, and another guitar (Schecter C-1 Classic JB/Jazz) that sounds great for rocking sounds, but I'd like my LP to be another versatile tool, but than can rock solid, more on the vintage side.

I was thinking about maybe a set of Phat Cats? Or CC bridge and PGn.

Don't know what would work well with this guitar.

One thing I would like is a bright sound for the bridge, and real deep sound from the neck, but always keep it warm and full (vintage if you'd like),
and a little on the hot side.

I'd like your advice and exp with swamp ash guitars.

    Thanks.

Why don't you give the JB a shot?
    ESP Maverick (Blackouts Metal)
    Jackson Falcon (Invader)
    ESP LTD Ninja-600 (mirror) (Invader/Distortion)
    Schecter Syn Special (Invader set)

I LOVE the Dimarzio Norton in Swamp ash!! I have one in my 95 Washburn USA MG 100 Pro and it is dead on the tones you are talking. Use the Norton in the bridge and a Air Classic in the neck and it should nail those tones!!
On the Duncan side using a Pearly Gates bridge or an Alnico II Pro in the neck and a Full Shread in the bridge should get you close.
