In his early career Eddie had some raw power it was hard to compete with. I hate most of his tapping tricks besides the famous part on Eruption, the slow thingy he does on Panama and a couple more I can't think of right now. His work on "Ain't talking about love", or later on "Humans Being" (minimal amount of tapping) is pure genius.

Turning his back to the audience was something in their very early career. He was still a kid.

Stevie Ray Vaughan. He played from the heart and his riffs dripped with soul. His #1 looked the way it did because it was the product of thousands of gigs, not just when Stevie had become successful but from years of playing dives and being with Stevie through all of the hard times. When he first came to Austin in the '70s, Stevie would sometimes sleep on the pool tables of the club he had played earlier that night. They say you have to live the blues to play the blues. Stevie definitely played what he lived and it was apparent in every note.

    Bingo. Yeah, ultimately they are.

I voted EVH. Eddie put the electric guitar world on its ear...SRV was a monster (hard to believe he's gone), but one might argue he took up where Hendrix left off.

That is true to a point. SRV was one of the fewif only people who could really nail that Hendrix style when he wanted. When I first heard SRV's version of voodoo chile, I didn't realize it wasn't Hendrix untill the vocals started.

I think what's overwhelmingly strange is what an accepted institution SRV left behind. You can't go to a Blues jam or to see a bar band and not hear "Pride And Joy" or "Cold Shot" or whatever. At times it's impossible to leave out of the set.

Add to it tunes like the mentioned "Voodoo Chile" or "Little Wing" or "The Sky Is Crying" and the first question that comes up is "why aren't you playing it the way SRV did?"

When you come in and take a standard and record it and then pretty much own it, that's kind of scary to think what you left behind.

In my circles I see alot of folks with Strats and goofy hats. To me that's his legacy that he left behind, the fact that he made an outdated notion hip in some sense and folks are still coming around to it and embracing it. To me that just totally trips me out.

I love SRV but I remember when Van Halen's first album came out and Eruption was just like nothing else before it. It might seem like old news now, but at the time it was totally unique and wicked, and it had a major impact on future guitar playing. It would be nice if SRV was still alive and putting out great stuff though.

    That's another good point.

    They both had many followers.

Most blues bands that I hear trying to do SRV style music tend to be a little boring - they tend to have dull tone, not really lively shuffle and a song list that won't surprise anyone.
Don't get me started about most EVH wannabes.

Everyone went for Eddie's fast licks when they should have taken his innovation - if you think the guy was about speed - you're missing the point.

It's a little hard for me to put my finger on the mistake most SRV wannabes make... probably the fact that they are trying to play generic blues while Stevie was all about personality, but I can except a better explanation.

Very subjective subject. But since you asked it's Eddie for me. More variety in the songwriting which for me makes the listening more interesting.

Kind of an apples and oranges thing here.

Comparing a blues player to a Hard rock player...
