Cool, I'll have to keep my eyes open for them I'm very interested. I am looking for a slimmer LP style guitar and while I'll likely get a Special of some sort these look pretty nice.

I played one of the quilt top versions with a CC and a 59 in it a couple of weeks ago.
Barring the slightly sharp fret ends, and the worthless VCC tone controls or whatever, this was a INSANELY nice MIK axe. The neck was incredible, the playing surface fret job was excellent, it acually had REAL african mahogany (3 piece back), not some crap agathis/nato mystery mahogany, and played like a dream. All for $450 bucks. Can't beat that. I think the CC/59 as a combo is not so good though. Huge "boom" factor when you switch to the neck pickup, though they did sound nice in the guitar from a tonal stanpoint (CC especially).
I also played a few of the newer MIK BC Rich mockingbird (specials) and each one of those was even better than the Washburn (though $200 more with all the tonepros gear). Along with the PRS singlecuts alot of these MIKs are really getting into MIJ type quality. I was impressed.

OK ... now we're cookin' with gas!! My solution:
1. Removed the old linear pots including the push/pull switches and the cheap pickups switch. Replaced with CTS audio pots & Switchcraft switch
2. Disabled the humbucker coils by grounding them ... never could make them noiseless (don't know why). Now the top P90 coils are operating alone with no humbucker.
3. Finished the shielding paint (kind of half way done initially) and connected the shielding in the pickup routs to ground. They may have been acting as antennas without the ground.
4. Put .047uf (bridge) and .022uf (neck) orange drops on the tone pots. Used 500k volume and 250k tone audio pots. Warmed up the tone just a little ... nice.
5. Removed the very stiff foam under both pickups and replaced with spongy foam so I could adjust the pickups up and down. Needed to drop the neck and raise the bridge to get balance between the pickups.
So:
- It is humming a lot less now
- Volumes ease in rather than coming on suddenly at 1
- Tone range is much easier to use and a bit less harsh ... just a tad warmer
- Pickups are balanced and really kickin' ... this is what i imagined P90s to be
Took a couple of days but ... now I'm happy ...![]()

Well ... I was on vacation today and through together a clip with my new axe. The lead and slide guitars are played through my '78 Mesa/Boogie. Boss Dr880 fir the rhythm guitar (using the Fender Twin setting) and my Yamaha bass (using Ampeg BA115 setting). Drums are programmed with Jamstix. This is just a quick jam track thrown together to illustrate the sound of the guitar ... nothing with a lot of work ... will probably take down after a few more days.

The guitar looks and sounds great, doveman! Glad you got the electricals figured out, and upgraded the controls and such.
I don't visit the Tips & Clips area often enough. You sound amazing!

nice clip doveman
i really wana try some p-90's now

Thanks ... I like 'em ... my fiest P90s. Not a real precise clip but I think the flavor of the guitar comes through.![]()

I have been eyeing this for a while, either when my p90 GAS started, or it may have been the beginning of it. I just realized (from a post in this thread) that part of what makes it look really good is the pickup mounting. The fact that I put a little work into my wi64 and made it REALLY nice doesn't help.

I have a Washburn WI62 (which is a WI64DL w/o the VCC) and with a little work that guitar was a killer too. A little wiring and a couple of pickups made it just fine too. This WI66 PRO is a nicer guitar though ... one grade up. I think the P90/GoldTop combo looks pretty good too.

Another clip with this guitar paired up with my G&L legacy at http://seymourduncan.com/forum/showt...34#post1446634
Still lovin' this thing.
