    Default Schaller Golden '50s humbuckers

These are a couple Schaller Golden '50s humbuckers that I've had sitting around for about 25 years, mostly because the wiring instructions are very unclear. But Stewmac's instructins for Schallers is a lot clearer, and now I see where the essential info is on the Schaller sheet. Well hidden, in the middle!

I'm planning to try these in my '82 Les Paul Standard. I'm a little tired of waiting for my unpotted '59 Duncans. They can go in something else.

I love both my Golden 50's and my Hot Stuff, the only loud pickup I ever really liked.
But my Golden 50's....well not very expensive, well made, love the sound, have used them as long as my Duncan's.

I was looking around yesterday, and I can't find anyone who still sells them anymore. I kind of think I got these ones from Luthier's Mercantile. Either that or Strings & Things.

I doubt that they're worth going through that much trouble actually. The only reason I dug these out was because that set of unpotted '59s is a little delayed, and I wanted to get a decent set of pickups in my Les Paul soon.... without ordering something else.

I'm pretty sure I could get a potted Duncan '59 delivered to my doorstep in a few days.

I prefer the G-50's over quite a few PAF style pickups
    Love their warm tone.

I had some problems with the neck pickup, so I put the Gibson neck PU back in. I was hoping to try a matched set.

The bridge PU does have a rather warm sound, but I don't like it's tone all that much, and it doesn't have enough clarity for me.

This pickup doesn't really suit me all that well.

One of the first thing I did this morning was order an uncovered, potted Duncan '59 bridge PU. Since it's a pretty common PU, and Specialty Guitars doesn't have to special order them if they run out... I'm hoping to have it early next week.

My MIJ Tele has had Duncan '59s in it for a while, so I know I like them

the golden 50's are very underated and wonderful pups
I own a old 61 paf and a t-top and a newer classic 57 and the schallers are nicer sounding than the 61 and the t-top
the bridge schaller in similar to the 57 classic actually
both are alnico II and at 8.2K
the schaller bridge pup wins by a small margin for its complexity in the tone the 57 classic does not have.

Love my Schallers in my Kramer and Ibanez, suits the stratstyle guitars well.
Warm and gentle when just brushing the guitar, and wailing when I really dig in.
Love that fat middy tone of the G-50's....
I use a Hotstuff in my Pacer Deluxe.....fat thick, and open at the same time, love those pickups.
    Very underated.

I adjusted the Golden 50 bridge PU farther away from the string today. Helped some. I still don't like that PU alone very much, but it works better when mixed with with the neck PU.

What do you guys think about putting an A8 into a Schaller pup. I found the Zebra schaller pup out of my Kramer (stick says 4/14/84 on the back). Somebody told me that the mag was an Alnico 5. All that I can find on the Schaller site is that they used an Alnico mag. Essentially the Schaller pup is a SD model 59 right?
