Default dumb question about Jaguar pickup change

Hi...and sorry for probably sounding like a moron. I don't know much about changing pickups, but I've been playing for a while (I'm originally a piano player) and have decided my Jaguar sounds kind of thin and trebley. Additionally, the stock pickups are starting to crackle and crap out. I'd like to keep some of the unique, trebley sound of my guitar (i.e. the "lead" circuit), from which I can get great surf/rockabilly sounds, but I'd also like to get a fuller, bassier sound for playing rhythm. I've played a lot of guitars with humbuckers appreciate the way they sound and would like to get as close to that as I can on my guitar. I think hot rails, cool rails, and the little 59er all look like great options, but I'm not sure if I can use them since they're strat pickups. I see the dimensions are slightly different from some of the jaguar pickup dimensions, but has anyone tried putting single coil-sized humbuckers on a jaguar? And if not, can any jaguar players give me advice on what to use? I'd like to be able to get a nice, bassy modern-rock rhythm guitar tone while maintaining some of the jaguar's characteristic sound and versatility. Thanks for all your help and sorry for writing so much!

I'm a Jaguar fan!! Welcome to the forum. SD offers some replacement Jag pups and one of them is a hotter version, meaning it will definitely be fuller and bassier and not have as much high end. I would suggest one of those. I'm not sure about s/c sized buckers being able to fit in a Jag, so I can't help there.

I've seen it done (hot rails in bridge) but I dont know if it requires mods or not but i wouldn't recommended it. Try a hot or quarter pounder for a thicker tone that said if its a japanese jag the stock pickups always sound thin so any SD's or good aftermarket pickups will sound thicker while keeping the nice treble.

I would recommend the Vintage neck and the Quarter Pound bridge for your Jag, based on their descriptions. It's what I would do if I had a Jag. However, I've never tried either of these pickups before, and I don't own a Jag.....

Hey aqueous_chinchilla, cool name btw. I'm fairly use to Jags, particularly stock versions, having had 4 through the years. They are so unique as a guitar and can cover so much ground too. That said, they're super great guitars esp. with a proper setup.

I'm sure you know that Jaguars have a trebly nature to begin with. Keeping that in mind, I would agree with TwinReverb's post. Though I haven't used the Jag Qtr Pounders, I have used the Jag Hots in one guitar. I'm sure that the Qtr lb. would give you that desired added Bass response that you're looking to hear.
