    Default Dimebucker A5

Hey, I was wondering, anyone tried the Dimebucker with an A5 magnet? I kinda wanna try it as a neck model, but I feel like the ceramic would be a little inorganic for my purposes. Any thoughts?

It would still be too hot.
In 1861 as the Confederate forces were about to fire on Fort Sumter, the blue and gray had infinitely more in common than the blue and red today. What fellowship can "the truth shall set you free" ever have with "there is no truth, only points of view", or "what is truth?"

Secession would be a horror. But barring a major national crisis like a Black Death magnitude epidemic or nuclear attack to erase once and for all the myth that truth is negotiable, it is coming.

Dang... I assume aging the magnet wouldn't do enough either... Ahh well. Would a Screamin' Demon in the neck be too hot, you think? 'Cause I could use the strat-sized neck model, but I can't imagine it sounding the same.

You CAN NOT magnet swap the Dimebucker!!!!! It uses a special sized magnet that is not readily available. Unless, you might be able to scavenge one out of a old Bill Lawrence pickup. That may work but, I cant confirm that??????

Well okay then! Thank you for that, I was probably gonna try one in the bridge anyway, I would've been sorely disappointed.

Seriously? Man, that sucks. I'd been kicking around the idea of getting one and dropping in an A8.
Buy the book in my avatar. It's pretty cool.

Almost any pickup can work in the neck position if you back if off enough. If the Dimebucker is as clear, bright, and non-muddy as people say, then it could be a good candidate for a neck spot.

I only use high-output neck pickups and have for more than 5 years. I use a 16+K The Mag in my custom guitar and a 16+K Stag Mag in my Strat. Neither is muddy or too loud (in fact, they're too thin and bright for the bridge spot). Just lower them until you get the sound balanced.

That said, I wouldn't put a muddy sounding high-output bridge humbucker in the neck unless you wanted to use it exclusively for solos or thick stoner rock tones.

Well, there's always the custom shop... And there's always ceramic, but again, so mechanical... Ahh well. One day, maybe.

Last I knew you couldn't even get them from the CS w/out them being extremely exorbitant in cost. When you start getting into custom fabrication for 1 pickup, the price goes way up.

For instance. I enquired about getting a set of Mustaine Livewires w/ the reg Livewire covers....$450.

Why don't you just get a Bill Lawrence 500R or L and put it in the neck?

I'm guessing no. I've asked about a zebra patb and they just flat told me no.

I had a 500R in the neck and finally took it out. It was too bright and almost single coil sounding. I didn't want that for my explorer... so I found an old Zebra 59b layin around and put that in the neck and it is fat city. Only problem is that it looks like I am cheesin off of Dime! The 500R is a great bridge in a strat though... kinda clear VH tones... wierd.

That's a first on hearing those comments. I've never had a 500R sound bright and like a single coil in the neck. Especially in an all mahogany guitar. Heck, most people will leave the R in the neck oust the XL out of the bridge because they think it's to bright. I definately find it odd that you get "kinda clear VH tones" out of it in a strat. Intriguing. I've used all of the 500 series pickups and couldn't get anything close to the VH type tone. In fact, Bill designs his pickups to not sound that way. He's not overly fond of the "brown sound" and prefers his pickups to be more dynamic and Hi-Fi.

Well, I would think the entire PU being ENCASED IN EPOXY RESIN would be a bigger hindrance, but scarce availability of magnets is certainly also something to consider

Is it encased in Epoxy??? I never looked at one that close. Well, I have but, after I ripped it out of the guitar I couldnt put it up for sale quick enough to get it out of my hands and as far away from my ears as possible. LOL!!!!!
