Chamber of Secrets.
I had know idea the books, while having the same plot and story line(obviously duh?!), were so radically different details wise. Really good book and I would have never even read this one if hadn't been for this forum.

Yeah they are all very good books, I just finish the 7th book earlier this week. You will love that one, really good.

I thought they really started getting good with the third one, even more so with the fourth. After that, they're just fantastic.
Deathly Hallows is one of the best books I've ever read.
I have never read a HP book, even when they first came out. Never into it. I've seen the movies but wasn't interested in the books.

I'm about 100 pages into the 2nd book. Had to take a break since my eyes were bothering me. We don't have the greatest lighting for a reading environment. At this rate I'll probably have this one done and be well into the 3rd book or have it finished by tomorrow evening. I still just in awe in how much the movies left out.

I was the same way bro. The only reason I even seen the movies was because my little girl is a Harry Potter nut job! I thought the movies were good, but everyone kept telling me the books are a lot better so I took the plunge. I'm only into the 2nd book right now, but as of yet, I'm not disappointed at all.
I've also realized that it's better to read than rot my brain on the internet every chance I get since it forces me to use my imagination.
A good thing I think?

I actually hate the movies for some reason and stopped going to see them after the third one. I read the first 5 books, and I can safetly say, the series kicks off with that book. From there it is not kiddy anymore and starts getting more complex. I heard the 7th one has all these metaphors about political stuff and rebelling and what not, where most kids would just think, "uh oh, he has to get the bad guys now" but it is really projecting larger ideas. I was never much into the fantasy genre though, and I have no idea why I never picked up the 6th one and then the 7th...

I only read the after watching the movies. Mildy entertaining and I was always being told the books were so much better. Since I read fast I decided to give it a shot. Not bad. Actually got number 6 as a gift and I'm thinking of getting the other ones.
Still don't hold a candle to LOTR but it's fun and accessible.

And it's not really fair to compare it to LotR (neither book to book or movie to movie), it's a totally different kind of fantasy.
Now I'm of to read the Silmarillion, see you!![]()

I held out for a few years after they first came out and on a whim my wife picked up a 4 pack at costco. I've been hooked ever since. They progressively get better and better.

I read the latest book in less than a day! Great series of books. Enjoy the journey!

I seriously re-read every book at least once every year! Thats how good they are.

If you were really talented, you could read a book and post in the forum at the same time.
OTOH, you could read a book and post drivel.
Works for me.

Rowling has an amazing writing style. Descriptive and full of imagery yet not overly complex. She really got things going with book 4 and it just got better from there on out. The movies I dont really like.
