Default Why is the Seymour Duncan Co. successful?

I won't mislead anybody. I'm not the largest purchaser of aftermarket pickups. Many of my guitars have the stock pickups. But I always look at Duncan first. Many years ago I bought a Duncan Strat pickup that turned-out to be just awful in the bridge position of that particular guitar. Duncan, true to their advertised guarantee, let me exchange the pickup. (I paid the difference for a more expensive model.) There was absolutely no hassle involved. I've never forgotten that.

I think that's one reason why this company has done so well... They have good products, back them up, and they are not an arrogant bunch like the owners and management of so many musical product companies. Seymour Duncan wouldn't know me from Adam, as they say, but I met him briefly one time at a NAMM show. He seemed like a great guy to me. It flows down from the top. If the guy running the company is a jerk, that's how the company will be perceived. But if the owners and management are personable, the company will be perceived as customer-friendly and people will want to do business with them.

I think the reason SD is so successful is because Seymour is such a great guy. Hell, the man built the worlds largest pickup. Not only that, but because he has great customer service, an awsome forum, a product for every style, and two hot chicks that work for him

The Seymour Duncan company has mojo. It is very not-corporate. It is managed by people who are passionate about electric guitar music. When you add up the experience, the ambition and the definite human factor, I am not suprised that they are world class, and easily #1 in my book

I met Seymour once myself after a concert. He was pretty busy, but he took a minute to talk to me and was a super nice guy.

I've decided it's cuase his pickups are awsome at awsome prices. It's a win-win situation with seymour!
You can get a suprisingly good country guitar tone out of a Marshall Halfstack.

Another thing - Seymour works in the factory... He's not a corporate bigwig sitting in an office somewhere. The fact that the owner/president/founder has stayed in the workplace even after becoming so successful speaks volumes, IMO.

100%. Seymours dedication is amazing. I don't think companies like DiMarzio do that.

SD supplies a superior product and believes in 100% customer satisfaction. He's a musician who knows how other musicians want to be treated when doing business with him. SD holds a sense of pride in their product- a rare thing these days. In the age where profit margins and overseas production cloud the company's original vision, it's a pure joy to be able to do business with a company and a guy who hasn't lost touch.

Well never met anyone from the factory, but I just like the pickups, and you can always get something you want.
I am indifferent to überbotique stuff...Duncans delivers classic useable tones using good solid materials, you can have your own thing made as well for some extra money, and the service looks good, I have read about nothing but satisfied customers...good solid signs to me.
And they have a hands on boss.....always a extra good thing!
I love my pickups simple as that.
Will continue to buy more Duncan stuff in the future.
    Not gonna miss you know!

Yes! The non-corporate image has a very atractive factor in it. The SD company plays very well it is cards in this... Just look at the main page of this web.

I am as proud of my seymour duncan pickup as i am of my guitar, when you buy something that exceeds you expectations in every way (as i did), then i think it would take some very special to make me look elsewhere for pickups.

One thing SD does very well is to inspire confidence in their descriptions of their pickups, so people might be willing to take a chance on checking one of their PUs out.
