I liked the Crazy 8 so much I thought I would do a mag swap on a Custom 5 I had on hand to an A8. All I can say is WOW I'll say it backwards WOW!!
I now have a Custom 5, Custom Custom , Custom with the A8 and a Crazy 8 all in 1995 Washburn USA custom MG's. So here is a head to head.
The Custom 8 is brighter, tighter and clearer than the Crazy 8 with more heat.
It's brighter, tighter on the bottom and hotter than the Custom Custom but still has most of the buttery smooth solo voice of the Custom Custom.
It's over all warmer, bigger sounding and hotter than the Custom 5 with a lot more mid punch.
The guitar I dropped it in had a JB Trembucker stock and I am shocked how much hotter, bigger and smoother sounding the Custom 8 is compared to the JB.
I like this one a LOT!!
Now to drop the other A8 I have into the JB trembucker and install it in the Salas neck through. That guitar is quite dark and needs more heat and mids to wake it up so--- stay tuned![]()
