It's been quite a long time that I have been pleasantly surprised to this degree due to a pickup change.

And mind you, the pickup I swapped it with is the mighty Brobucker (TB spaced).

Thanks Odie and Jeremy, you guys are da man! I don't know why the hell I waited so long to try this pickup. I simply dunno! I think its the looks. It is actually very dangerous looking pickup. But anyways,...

You guys were right, it is thick, clear, balanced (not scooped at all), tight bass, textured lowermids, very nice highs and high mids. Thick tone, which is still clear.

Has basically the same characteristics of the brobucker, but has more presence, thus, sounds a little brigter, more screaming. Brobucker is a bit darker, but I dunno if that is really a good or bad thing. I am not gonna let go of my brobucker but for now am gonna be sticking to my new PATB-3.

BTW mine is 9.40K and splits great.

As I've said, it's been quite a long time that I am this happy due to a pickup change. The last time this happened costed me a lot more!

I recently snagged one hoping it would be all that and more. I was planning on splitting it as well! If it quells my Brobucker desires too - I don't know how it could get any better!

It`s been a little bit since I`ve had an actual PATB-3 in one of my guitars but recently sent a tremspaced 59 to the custom shop and had the wind it to the specs of a PATB-3. I was thinking the same thing , the Brobucker is a darker sounding pup , the rewound 59 sounds brighter but not in a harsh way. Both are great pups.

daemon barbeque talked me into a patb-3 and i was throughly satisfied with it. it's so full of tone and sounds good in a variety of guitars. even if you're not quite happy with high-output pickups, this one can change your mind. the ONLY reason i recently got rid of it is because i decided to go all single coil in my guitars.

in my setup, it has this extremely toneful sound. it was kind of squashy with my pick attack, so that really helped notes stand out. i could pick ever so lightly with that pup and get a full, round tone. i have a sound sample of it here: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page...?bandID=687009

under music, there is a song labelled "i'm not malmsteen, but it's a start" or something like that. it might give some forum members a good idea of what this pickup can do (please excuse the slop )

i did keep my custom custom though, and that will never go away. it's my favorite duncan, but the patb-3 would right up there under it.

its a bit different. its less scooped to my ears than a 59 and the tonality is different

Yeah , it`s fatter sounding and not as boomy in a Strat vs. the 59. Sounds better at high gain.

I dont know about a 59 in a LP but, it can make a Strat sound closer to a LP than anything out there by a good margin. I can get convincing LP tones from my Jackson with it.

I've got mine in a HM Strat with a Khaler paired with a bridge Lil PG in the neck and it definately cops some Gibson-like tones.

I had a PATB3 in a Carvin SC90. The carvin sounded bright even though it was built with mahogany back and neck with a flame maple top. (Was gorgeous and played like a dream) With the PATB3, it sounded thick and fat and very much like a LP. I was absolutely BLOWN away by it.. I will get another one for a guitar very soon. I just wish I could get one with the same tone, just alil hotter..

It is definitely a very tasty bucker. Nowadays I have been using it quite a lot, and it delivers. As Odie was saying (thanks again bro) it makes a fat strat sound like an a5 LP. And the best thing is that it is bright but not too much.
