Had hmm...2 as well....and I do not like LP style guitars, but these two I could live with. sold as I never used them....but the sound and workmanship was simply splendid.

A friend of mine has a Tokai LP, it really a very nice piece of work, but I'm no expert on LP's.
My explorer is made in korea but is a very solidly made guitar, pickups were a bit rubbish mind so expect to have to replace those if yu get the Tokai MK IV PAFS (I think that's what they're called).

They're great, at leas those Strats, SG, and about five LP's I've tested - all abou 700-1200 €, so in USD it's like $ 1000-1500, like model number 75 to 90.
I also own a LS-85 F LP. It's great, no flaws in finish or set-up, tone is great acoustically, and with Duncans (Custom/PGn) it has a great tone for rock and metal and blues. Although I MIGHT replace that Custom with a PG, C5, or VH PAF (china/ceramics job there). Brilliant quality for the price, Gibson STD costs almost 3 times as much as my Tokai. The pickups were MK II PAFs, descent, but very little prescence or high end.

The latest MIJ Tokais are supposed to be real nice.

    Here's the website.

The LS-135 plaintop looks like a really sweet deal.

    Here's a Tokai dealer.

If your looking in the $1000 range, also look at the Bacchus Duke.

Thanks for the info! Kherman, No, Im way under a grand..

If I had more $$$, Id get an Edwards.. I know those are great! I asked the dealer selling the Tokai (also deal Edwards) how they compared. He said they are similar build but the Tokai sounds different.. HMMM...?? I hope not too different. And hope it still has that LP tone..

IME Tokai makes a noticeably more authentic Les Paul than Edwards does.

And the Tokai's sound different cos they don't have that godawful thick lacquer taste finish which chokes off the wood's natural tone (though not *all** Edwards have that).

Mind you, Edwards makes a good Les Paul...Tokai just does everything better.

If you can a get a Nitro finish, so much the better, will sound even better.

Watch out for MIK Tokais though..most are Alder or Nato.

Can anyone tell me which actual maker(s) produces the Japanese-market Tokais?

I've been told it's Kasuga, but would like confirmation.

    Thanks.

I imagine this to have something to do with it.

BTW, nice, I find black Pauls with golden hardware to be extremely classy!!!
