    Default Man I love Zippo's

They're just awesome. The way they're built is fantastic. And that "wind proof" thing is also pretty cool. These are the two that I bought

The star one just looks really cool. The satin chrome one I got to use as a beater lighter. I occasionaly smoke cigarillos, but having a lighter handy is, well, handy.

I also found about lightertricks which has some pretty cool things you can do with a Zippo.

So, any Zippo fans out there!

My satin chrome's lid is pushed back like a mm so it's not flush with the body part. I think it's from trying to do this lighter trick where you hold the lid between your thumb and index & middle finger. Make a gun with your hand and have the body of the lighter pointing up. Then with the other hand, cock the "gun" and doing so you open and light it.

I spent a lot of time practicing this so maybe it bent a little. Thank god for their repair guarantee/warrantee

    I've got four...

Picked up a "Jack Rocks" Jack Daniels Zippo 7 or 8 years ago in Nashville, but stopped carrying it when the white paint began to wear from being in my pocket with coins.

I inherited a gold plated Zippo from an old roommate. I don't think I've ever put fluid in it.

I got a smoked chrome with my initials in it as a gift. That's the one I use all the time at home.

And recently I got a crushed aluminum looking one as a gift. Though, to be honest I haven't looked at it, and I don't think it's a real Zippo... so maybe I only have three.

Oh, and I don't do tricks. I know a couple, but they are probably the super easy ones everyone knows, and I usually see it a silly gimmick. Just light your **** cigarette!

I don't smoke at all, but like to have lighters. Something about the power of fire in your hands is cool.

I had the jack daniels one, but have a feeling my old roomate stole it the day i got it. he also a capo of mine I had just gotten. What a ******.

A bunch of years ago I bought myself a nice one with my initial on the side. It had a bunch of scroll work on it and was pretty fancy. It had the older setup for filling the reservoir and according to the guy that sold it to me, was one of the last ones like that and was fairly desirable.

I played a gig that night and it was the last I saw of it.

A few months later I decided to treat myself so I went and picked up another one exactly like it, except with the newer reservoir. I paid the extra buck to have the guy fill it for me too. I walked out of the shop and got into my car. When I went to put the new one in the pocket of my jacket I felt something odd.

    It was my old Zippo....

I still have both. I wish I could find a good retrofit so I could use it for cigars. Right now I have a really nice Colibri that was a gift and way more than I would have ever spent on one for myself.

Haha, I did that with my good cigar cutter... left it in my coat pocket, thought I lost it, and found the following winter, after I had bought a replacement. I was glad I bought a cheapo replacement cutter.

I still have the same Zippo I've had since like 1985. It's been all around the world with me- and Zippo repaired the lid for me once already. The lid is broken again, I will have it repaired again, but it's in retirement for a while.

I've got a bunch- most of which were "giveaways." I've got 3 or so of the brass ones that Marlboro was giving out a few years ago. My current favorite is one of those.

    That guarantee/warantee- that is awesome.

The one small ***** I have... with my old Zippo- the hinge pin came out when I was in Saudi Arabia- I had found a paper clip, put that through the hinges, bent the paperclip and cut it. I used it like that for 10 years- when I got the lighter repaired (the hinge had come unsoldered from the top cover), I wrote a note and asked that they not replace the paperclip hinge pin. But they did.

    Yep, I've got 3.

One of them is my absolute fav. Its nothing fancy, just a plain, shiny chrome Zippo. But I've had it for almost 20 years. I shop lifted it a long time ago when I was like 13 or 14.

Its been thru hell and back. I've lost it a couple of times, and it always came back to me. Its even been thru the wash, to the beach, and in my pocket that time I jumped in the lake. I've been arrested with it. I use it sometimes to find my way in the dark. Its been to just about every concert I've been to. I got in a fist fight one time and the guy punched me right in the coin pocket where I keep it. I'm pretty sure that hurt him more than it hurt me.

I quit smoking about 2 years ago, but still carry it everywhere I go. Its sort of a good luck charm to me now.

I've had a bunch over the years. Sometimes, they're a pain to refurbish and keep them lighting consistently, but I'll always like Zippos.

I don't like those lighter tricks, and I hate when people grab mine and try to do it.
All it does is weaken the hinge, and possibly slip out of their hand and hit the floor.

I had a really cool engraved Zippo that I lost, unfortunately. It had a Navy Carrier and its callsigns. Darn.

I do own a couple that currently aren't working. I bought new wicks for them, and I can't get the things inserted. Any tips?

I have one that has my initials on it and I think it's pretty cool.

I also got one for my 2 cousins when they joined the U.S. marine corp. You know, the zippo with the marine's emblem on it.

I bought the cheapest one I could find so I wouldn't care if I destroyed it. Helps pass the time sometimes.

Umm, you have to take everything out (the white [cotton?] balls). If that's done, use something like a pencil to push the wick through.

I tried all that. The supplied wick is just too wide to go through the hole, and it's a Zippo product. I used a pin, pencil, super-thin tweezers, tried burning the ends, tons of stuff. Shame. Want that lighter in my camp box.

I bought this Zippo at the indian smoke shop on US 69 in Oklahoma (yes, the same place mentioned in the lyrics of Choctaw Bingo by James McMurtry). It's called Sea Weave and has mother of pearl and abalone inlay and is about 3 times heavier than the average zippo. I wanted something unique. Now it just sits in my souvenir box. I quit smoking on August 27th.

Tell me more... I have three Zippos (all free) and I love messing with them, but I only smoke cigars, and as you know butane is by far the preferred choice. Is there a butane conversion somehow?

I think the thing I like most about Zippo is that they still operate like an old fashioned American company, if it doesn't light, send it in and they will fix it. Awesome.
