I'm an internet person. All we do is waste time evaluating things that have next-to-zero real world significance.
Remember, it's just a plank of wood. YOU have to find the music in it - The Telecaster Handbook

I gotta agree with ya jolly, I've got an Epi LP too. Once I loaded it with Duncans it sure does give the Gibsons a good run for the money. But when you strap on one of the Gibsons, there is a good difference in mojo and quality and feel I just don't get from the Epi. But tonewise, they both absolutely rock the same.

Here's mine:
1998 Gibson LP Standard - Cherry Sunburst Plain top with a set of nickel covered Bareknuckle Alnico IV Mules.
2005 Gordon Smith Graduate 60 with Bareknuckle Black Dog (bridge) and Riff Raff (neck) and bookmatched headstock.
Now the 1's I've owned and sold:
Epiphone LP Standard in Honeyburst with a Screamin' Demon in the bridge, and a Pearly Gates in the neck.
My 1st 'proper' guitar was a Rikter LP copy with Double cream pickups and cream binding in a really dark Tobacco Sunburst. I don't have any photos of that 1 though![]()
Gibson, PRS, Fender, Patrick Eggle, BC Rich, Gordon Smith, Jackson, Ibanez and Home-built Guitars.
Splawn Quick Rod, Soldano SLO Clone, Marshall JCM800, Matamp + old Carlsbro amps, Zilla and Award Session speaker cabs.
Mainly HomeBrew Electronics and G2D FX, plus a few other.

Just listen:
Awwwwwwwww...............you could go out and have a bite and still be hearin' that one.

Cool top!
This is my main guitar lately. A '98 Les Paul Junior/Special. It currently has a WCR BetSet neck pickup, and a WCR Crossroads bridge pickup.
This is the one I want to buy, but I'd be standing in the soup lines for the next couple years if I bought it.
Make 'n Music has this one. This thread's making me check everyone's inventory!

*** New Price *** The Wiggler! Just look at the figure on this top! It's on fire and wiggles as you look at it from different angles. Strong from all...
They have to have done something to make the grain jump out like that!

I agree.. My Epis that Ive had, sound nearly as good. But when I strap on the Gibson, there is a feeling.. But honestly, I think its the pride that goes along with knowing I have on a $1000 GIBSON!! I honestly dont think its anything special with the guitar.. Its just that we've been brainwashed that brand G is Regal, and to be able to strap one on puts you in the same league as all the heros.. slash and Page and clapton and green and on and on..

I normally dont like Cherry burst, but the grain on this make it irrelevent to me. I love this..

Based on the John 5 telecaster, only much more balanced volume-wise. It's glorious. There is still one creme part on it (control plate), because I can't find a black one that fits.
Edit: Oh right, it's an Epi LP-100.

Gas, Gas and more Gas! some lovely finishes in that lot!

My guitar of choice no doubt...

Without tubes there is no point to getting wood.

Here's another one I'm not going to buy, even though it's in my price range. I've been looking at this used Epi for a few days:
http://elderly.com/vintage/names/epi...-30U-14182.htm
EPIPHONE LES PAUL CUSTOM (2001)
condition abbreviations EC, sunburst finish on nice (bound) maple top, cherry finish on mahogany (bound) body and neck, bound headstock and rosewood fretboard, block inlays, 22 frets, 2 humbucking pickups, stop tailpiece, tune-o-matic style bridge, modern roto style tuners, gold hardware, b-w-b-w pickguard, built in Asia, 1-11/16" nut, 24-3/4" scale, with HSC (SN:I00120099)
30U-14182 .. $550.00
Thing I don't like is how cherry the sunburst is, and I prefer trapazoid markers like on the Standards.
I think I'd rather have one of these Epi Plain-Top's in Vintage Sunburst for about $400 http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ENSPVSCH
Les Paul Standard Plain-top Features:
- Finish - Vintage Sunburst
- Pickups - 2 Alnico Classic HB
- Hardware - Chrome
- Scale - 24.75"
- Nut Width - 1.68"
- Neck - Set
- Neck Material - Mahogany
- Fingerboard/inlay - Rosewood/trapezoid
- Binding - B/N
- Body Material - Mahogany
- Top - Maple
- Tailpiece - Stopbar
I don't really have GAS!
