I noticed a few threads that compared the Pearly Gates Plus to a hotter '59 and the Duncan website compares the SH-14 Custom 5 to a hotter '59.
So are the Pearly Gates Plus and Custom 5 pickups similar in your opinion?
What's the difference?

the pearly gates is on the hotter side of PAF style pickups..it has Alnico 2 mags..
the C5 has more bottom and highs than the 59, hence the description..and it is a pup with considerable output..moreso than the PG...it has Alnico 5 mags..can sound scooped in some rigs..
but that doesn't mean the C5 and pearly gates are similar...

59 = 8.13K(even coils)+Alnico5 magnet
Regular PG = 8.35K(mismatched coils)+Alnico2 magnet
PG Plus = 8.52K(mismatched coils)+Alnico5 magnet
C5= 14.4K(even coils)+Alnico5 magnet
All of these pickups are different, the differences may be small or big depending on your taste. Mismatched coils give the PG and PG+ a sizzle on the top that just can't be matched by an evenly wound humbucker. C5 has less top end than the 59 and more bottom, it also sounds a little compressed due to the hotter wind.
