cat 3 wire for use in guitar?

i think this would work fine. it is 22 awg solid copper wire that is pretty durable. any ideas why this wouldn't work in my strat?

I use CAT5E for the internal wiring on all my guitars. It works great.

The only potential problem is if you build up too much capacity. A shielded cable acts as a capacitor and hence using it anywhere between your pickup and your first active stage (amp, effect) has the same effect as soldering in an equal capacitor.

However, with the length involved inside the guitar this is unlikely to become an issue.

No, the other way round. Unshielded single wires have practically no capacity and don't change sound. If you use shielded wire then you might change the sound depending on how much capacity the wire has per length and how much you put in there. Guitar cable (as opposed to microphone cable) is low capacity per length.

The stuff from your third link is not low-capacity, but most like you don't have enough length inside the guitar for it won't matter.

You don't need shielded wire if the electronics cavity is shielded anyway.

Just use the twisted pair strands. It has practically zero capacitance.

i can verify that the twisted pair wire works great and is easy to work with. you can bend it however you want and it will stay that way as you solder it. cant go wrong with solid copper!

So CAT5 wire it is, when you say use the twisted pair do you mean I should wire to wires together to each connection or should I untwist them from each other and use each strand individually?

yes. twisted pair just means that the two wires are twisted together to ward off unwanted noise. untwist them, and use one color for hot, and one color for ground.

cat5 means category 5 (5 twists per foot)
cat3 means category 3(3 twists per foot)
