    Keep in mind that the PATB2 is a distortion pickup. So the clean isnt going to be pristine.

    Keep in mind that the PATB2 is a distortion pickup. So the clean isnt going to be pristine.
    I'm not talking about distortion while playing clean (I actually like the fact I can hit it hard and get some breakup), but the actual clean tone is .... ordinary.

    What he meant is that it is a distortion-oriented pickup, it was designed to best work under distortion, not clean. In short it doesn't sound very good clean because that's not what it was meant for...
