Question Anudder ask a Duncan user a DiMarzio question

Now I feel like I'm being decietful because I wanna basically ask a quesh about the DiMarzio Evolution neck pickup. It will basically replace the last and final Duncan in my axe and then I'll be all DiM(ed)arzio out (provided it works out or I come crawling back). /lol

    - Who here has or currently uses the DiMarzio (Steve Vai) Evolution 'neck'
    humbucker?

    - How is your impression of it's sound and feel - under clean and high gain?

    - How is it for lead guitar playing 'specially?

I thinks dats all - if I tink o' somethin' else, "I'll be bach."

I've played them in Jems, and they sound great for high gain. At the time, I don't think I ever used a clean tone, so I can't comment on that.

Just figged I'd ask about it's clean tone just because it wouldn't hurt to have good cleans - even seeing it's ceramic and high output. Whatever though... thanks JB.

No problemo. If you know how to use the volume and tone knobs, you can get some surprisingly good clean tones out of stuff.

If you've used the Evo bridge, you know it's a very unforgiving pickup, though. I've never heard a pickup that covers up mistakes or slop, but Evos seem to make them very apparent. If you're after a pickup for high gain neck soloing, I don't think you'll find anything better, though.

That and the Full Shred aren't very forgiving. They kinda show if you're being sloppy or stuff like that. I've heard similar things about the Bill Lawrence 500XL but I've only played one for a while. But the articulation is worth it. I want an EVO and a FS soo bad!!!

I had an EVO set, I didn't like the neck pup as much as the bridge. It was hot and full, but not articulate enough for my taste. I went with a PAF Joe. I like it much better, but I guess my perfect Dimarzio neck pup would be the Air Norton with the top end of the PAF Joe.
The PAF Joe has a nice stratty kind of character to it, the Air Norton has a warm and vocal quality while be very defined. The EVO neck did not strike me as having enough of either quality for me to keep it.
