Default JB Trembucker + A2 Mag = ( new live clip added )

Today I pulled the Custom 5 out of my Mahogany boddied Washburn MG 120 and replaced it with a JB that I swapped in an A2. Instant big time Brown Sound fat warm sweet tones. Swapping the A5 for the A2 in the JB was much more dramatic a change than it was on a Custom wind. The JB A2 output is stillunder the A8 Custom in my MG 122 but they are in the same ballpark.
This thing really sings in this guitar with a BIG warm open tone and it seems to clean up VERY well with the volume controll.
The A8 Custom still seems to be more articulate and much tighter with more output but this JB/A2 is interesting. Tomorrow night I will hit the stage with it and I will also have the A8 Custom MG 122 so I'll give ya an update after that. So far so good and I likes it!!
Here are the guitars they are pretty much identical except for the color and neck pickup configuration.
The MG 120 with the A2 JB

The MG 122 with the A8 Custom and both are 1995's

Here is an identical pair in a Washburn add from 1994 with the specs

I knew I liked Washburn for a reason!

Man, the MG 120 looks to be the one my guitar was modeled after, all but the quilted top.
Identical neck, HSS, same pot covers and same Wilkinson (I think, mine is the VS50 II)

Cool description for the A2 JB, after the show tell us you impressions, I might have an open spot for one...

how is the bass on the JB with the A2 magnet? Is it tighter than that of a normal JB?

It's a little looser but still pretty tight. I had a Custom Custom in the Purple 122 at one time and the JB A2 seems much tighter than the Custom Custom was in these.
The High end is what changed the most with the A2 it's much smoother and sweeter. Overall the pickup is MUCH more organic and open sounding now but is still pretty aggressive. With the A2 in the JB it's really easy to get that warm open brown sound like the early Van Hallen stuff. I was surprised with this ones GREAT harmonics! The Zak pick harmonic stuff just flows out of this one!
I have had a Pearly Gates in this one as the stock pickup then the C5 the JB/A2 is the best tone I have gotten so far out of this guitar. The pickup really works well tapped with the SSL-1's and ballances well in tone and output. As a combination so far this seems like a home run!
Tonight will be the test though as how it works in a live full band situation, will it cut through the mix well on solos is the real question.
Let ya know after the show!

Here is a clip from last night. http://www.soundclick.com/bands/song...songID=5963306
This one worked out well in particular with the Fender Prosonic. That amp seems to like this pickup and the fat tones it lets me dial in a little more high end and with the shared eq that helps the clean tones. Fat and sweet with great split tones but still has additude me likey this one!

To me that sounds very very tight for a passive pickup, it cuts through but the bass is pounding
sounds like you've got a good thing going witht hat one, a good versatile passive pickup for the heavier end of things.

I've never owned a JB though so I guess I cant really compare it anyway.

That is my take also . The stock JB is a litle tighter on the bottom but can also be pretty boomie at times and the high end is downright nasty and abrasive to my ear. Here is a clip with the exact same pickup before the mod played through my Marshall http://www.soundclick.com/bands/song...songID=5590391
This is MUCH better to me than the stocker is with a lot smoother less abrasive high end. This one is definately staying put in this guitar!
PS this clip is using my 2/10 Prosonic combo no effects and unmiced in the room. Not a bad tone for an unmiced little 2/10 combo huh !
