I have a 50's reissue Fender Strat that I dropped a set of Fender Fat 50's in it and it just never sounded good even through a tube amp. Way to tinny and no bottom to speak of. We are talking about FAT 50's PUP's...
I did some horse trading the other day and one of the pieces was a Fender Roc Pro 1000 trans tube head with a ported 15" cab with a powered horn.
So, the first thing I did was plug the dud into it, out comes this amazing tone. I was floored... (I have tweaked and played with this guitar forever and it never sounded like it had a pair)
The tube is in the clean channel (I stuck a Mullard in it) and the guitar just delivered.. I mean flat out insanity. When I hit the gain it was almost orgasmic....
Anyone else have one of these amps or a trans tube amp? I'm wondering if the PUP's were designed to work with Solid State. I have never been a SS fan but this amp has got me scratching my head. I was going to flip the amp but now I am having second thoughts.
I would like to find out why it sounds so good with this amp and never sounded good through a blackface or any tube amp.
Thoughts???
