    Default Colours Vs/ polarity

I've been trying to figure out the polarity of a couple of 4 wire humbs and I got this far: 'North start=black' 'North Finish=White' 'South start=Red' South finish=green' but I'm pretty sure I'm wrong coz my LP is muted and buzzing, so can you guys correct me and put me on the straight course to Seymour Duncan heaven. It would make me whole or else I'm f*c*t

Welcome to the forum. North, south, start, finish . . . none of that really matters since the color code is arbitrary. Just do this: (You need to beg, borrow, or steal a meter.) Use the ohms function to determine which two wires are the coils. Then connect the meter leads to one coil, with the meter on its lowest DC volts range. Bring a screwdriver (#2 phillips) up against the pole pieces. Then yank it away. The voltage should go positive when you approach and negative when you yank away. If it does, then the red lead points to positive and the black lead points to negative. If it goes positive when you yank away, its the opposite.

Do the same for both coils. You should also be able to tell which wires go to which coil. Then connect positive of one coil to negative of the other, and the two left over are your hot and ground.

    Make sense?

allready did that and I do own a few meters no need to steal, and it does matter very mouch magntism works acually in waves and when you have two magnets next to each other they affect each other, I spent enough time in school trying to understand this, and I just cant teach you this here you'll have to go to a Univerity and learn electrical engineering like me..

Try http://www.guitarelectronics.com/category/wiringresources.11pickupcolorcodes/. They have wiring codes for most popular manufacturers. I use their charts so I can convert SD schematics, to Dimarzio, etc.
