    How about a 5/2 Custom humbucker? Or a (Ceramic/5/2) 7-string p/u. Ceramic on low B and E A5 on A, D & G and A2 on B & E. Just a thought.

+1. We need a wilder Phat Cat, and the rail should be wide enough to cover F-spaced needs. Make it A5. Great name Artie!

The world needs a new humbucker, like a shopping mall needs another Starbucks.

I don't care either way. But it's a bucker world whether you single coil kids want to admit it or not.

All that aside, I don't see it happening again so soon. Shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth per say and all the racket they cause trying to get everyone to decide is just absolutely insane.

...I think a reasonable percentage of people on this board own strats and teles, there was a poll somewhere that I think came in at over half Fender ownership.

Wow... I walk away for a couple of hours suddenly they're flingin' single coils around...

You single coil people are nuts...

I'm still waiting for an answer from Evan...

Instead of creating something from a bunch of random ideas.....we could take Evan's prior offer of a bulk order of an existing CS pickup. At least then, it would be good.....not some frankenpickup that sucks.

I'd love to see a dual order of 78's and Warren DeMartinis, both available for $100.
We'd finally get to pick up some of those for far less than $160.

That would have been great, consider me in!

No matter what we choose, it's got to be an 80s style pickup. After all, for most of the other styles people around here play, all you need to do is throw your equipment down the stairs, and you have THAT tone!

What was the final verdict on the Crazy 8? I didn't get in on it because it seemed to cobbled together, not a cohesive design.

If we did 80's, I'd love to see something like an "Ultimate JB". All the screaming awesomeness with none of the stuff we all hate (tight bass, a little less honking upper mids...)

*hurls Superstrat down stairs, somehow still not satisfied

I never did try the brobucker and Crazy 8, but I get the impression that's not what those were...

I think as a regular prod. pickup, a Dog90-whatever Artie called it would not be past desire. Hmm, anyone else agree?

How about a Tele SC sized humbucker, maybe a cool rails for tele, or a Tele sized custom.
You can run over a Tele with a pickup truck, pick it up - and it'll still play out of tune

I got the Crazy 8, honestly I cannot properly classify it as a hot pickup, not because it's not, cause it is, but because it doesn't have the inherent "flaws" of hot pickups.
It's extremely articulate, cleans up beautifully (has amazing cleans) and an all around kick-ass tone.

I too think that perhaps we might be rushing ourselves, it's only been some months since we got the Crazy 8. Still, I wouldn't mind another go at it

As far as the pu itself goes, I totally have uses for both an 80s voiced humbucker and a good SC. The HB would go to the bridge of my Marleen and the SC would finally replace that DiMarzio Fast Track 1 at my Strat's neck that I've been itching to get rid of ever since I put the Crazy 8 at its' bridge.
Of course it goes without saying that it has to be a sweet voiced pu that pairs up good with the Crazy 8 in N+B (or N+split B) scenarios

But, as I said above, perhaps we might be getting ahead of ourselves...

speaking of which I don't really know who has say over this.

We can't just say "let's have a custom pickup".

    Can we?

Up till now I guess it was either Evan, Seymour or probably both that decided on that as a gift of sorts, meant to please us.

Honestly, I'd love to get another one but I would feel uncomfortable to ask for sth that is supposed to be offered when and if possible/convenient for the one that makes the offer...

heh, I don't remember the second time, but the first time wasn't someone PESTERED into it?

The brobucker was whining, and I assume alnico 8 was a whimsical idea that a lot of people took to... Needs/unique things to be sure, but there are a ton of 80s HBs and I think this idea needs to be done justice with something unique.

Exactly. Mr. Duncan is an extremely generous and awesome dude, I don't think it's wise to take advantage of it, or stretch it too thin.

In my opinion, one pup every 2 years is amazing enough, if even that often. Name another company that does anything like this.

I want a strat pickup. Either the unholy lord of thick juicy strat bridge goodness, or the sweetest, dreamiest neck pickup.

I'd love a badass SC, but I think SC users are even MORE picky than HB users.

Well, it's not like they lose money on the things. They must make a fair amount of money on these bulk custom orders - as the materials are supremely inexpensive and the expert labor is quite efficient.

But still, I think it's pretentious to ask for them to devote that much time to another Custom run, cause it can't be easy to design the things (even though SD probably is the best in the world at it).

But if it's a single coil, and SD/MJ/Evan are into it, then I'll be all over it. If it's a bucker, I'll be sitting it out again.
