I'd love a badass SC, but I think SC users are even MORE picky than HB users.
    ...I am

But for this it wouldn't be worth it to create just another SC that sounded like an SC but with slightly diff specs, I think something creative (The SC P90) would be in order.

As I said, if/when that were to happen I'd be split 50/50 on both ideas, as long as it was the sweetest dreamiest neck SC instead of a meaty bridge SC.

I swapped the FT2 in my Strat's bridge because that pickup had a voice I loved which made it obvious to me that it was the SC size that I didn't like there...

EDIT: A SC P-90, I wonder if sth like that is even possible...

I think there's an insane amount of pickup options out there even in SD alone, and with existing pickups and a lot of the "forum's" know-how on mods and whatnot, I think almost any pickup configuration is do-able with existing PU's, parts and knowhow. Just my two cents. sorry.

I've tried most of the best Duncans, and if I had my choice, this is what I'd design.

A Custom/59 hybrid that's overwound just a tiny bit on both coils. The regular hybrid sounds great, so just juice it up a little bit.
    A Custom coil that's not 7.2K, but 7.8K, and a 59 coil that's not 4.06K, but 5K.

Put them together with an A5 magnet, zebra coils, potted with a nickel cover. Also a trembucker version. That would be my choice. The 12.8K Custom/59 A5 hybrid.

That sounds good... but I still would like Full Shred cosmetics. I have no use for Covered or Zebra pups.

Any anyway. What's there to look for in 80's pickups anyway? Grab a JB or a Distortion. All the 80's you would ever need. Then throw a MXR Distortion+ in front of it and turn it into an indiscernible buzzy mess, and the 80's sound will be yours.

The filtertron SC idea is GREAT maybe a cross between a jag pickup a tele pickup and a filtertron something brand new and cool. Curtis Novak make jazzmaster pickups that sound like many other pickups but I'd personally rather something in strat or tele sized single coil.

I think the best humbuckers have been created already, but the ultimate single coil has yet to be dsigned ^^

When DiMarzio released the Area 58 i thought that was it, but let's face it most DiMarzio pickups make you sound like and 80's hair band no matter what you play....

I like the idea of a 'superFullShred'. Not necessarily higher output, but perhaps a bit beefier and meanier sounding.

I also wouldn't mind a single coil but I have no idea what I'd want for this. Maybe something along the line of a 8K standard Strat coil, to add some beef but keep the tone.

Or how about a dedicated Strat bridge pickup? A good Strat bridge pup is hard to find. It'd need to be hotter, warmer sounding, and still mix in well with the other pickups.

What I would want would be a slightly overwound A2 PAF set based on the Seth Lover, say 9.5K for the bridge and 7.7 for the neck--and potted. There's a big hole in the duncan lineup for such a pickup, though the Brobucker comes close.

    My 2 cents.

The question is really philosophical: Can you make a humbuckers more 80's than the humbuckers people used in the eighties? If so, can such a humbucker restore the eighties, make Wyld Stallyns reunite, and bring world peace?

Sirion, you're an effing pervert who does nothing to contribute to this forum. Go away, and do something worthwhile with your life, because this is just low and disgusting - not only talking about this very thread - all your posts point in one direction, and that ain't pretty. Yes, you know perfectly well what I'm talking about, so don't pretend anything else. Grow up.

Let's be careful not to take advantage of Seymour Duncan Company's past generosities. The other forum runs were offered to us, not given to us out of request.

Besides, at the time of the Crazy 8 there was a concurrent thread started by jeremy on what a single coil forum run would be. IMO, no sense in requesting a forum run CS humbucker that won't do what 100 other humbuckers already do.

What about a Blackout that is totally different from what the other actives offer? Like a humbucker sized active P90? That would be cool I think! Make it chrome too!

We'd finally get to pick up some of those for far less than $160.
I would agree. A bunch of kids voicing their opinion on what specs a pickup should be yet, throwing around random specs on what they "think" will sound good, and not really having any clue what it will sound like is kind of retarded. How about, we all come up with the sound we are looking for and let the Custom shop decide how they want to build it? They know how to do this and they have been doing it for a long time! Far more experienced than a handful of kids sitting around thinking up a frankenpickup.

The Bulk order for an existing custom shop pickup would be great also. The 78 is almost becoming a dime a dozen and is easy to come by used so, why dont we go for something else like an S-deco or maybe a Scott Ian?

Also, I think Evan may have said they will do this once a year. Isnt it in the summer?

Was it only in the summer? I totally forgot that... I guess I'm jumping the gun a bit. Time seems to go so quickly. I totally lose track...
