Default A new foreigner esque song I did

Hey guys, this one has been in the pipeline for a couple of months now and has been mixed to the very best of my ability. It's sort of an untypical style for me, but hopefully turned out well. Vocals were done by my long time co-conspirator Tim Blake and is part of our project The Plutonic Chronic. He also co-authored the lyrics and vocal melodies with me. I also need to give props to Jeff Dunne (virtual kevorkian) for basically re-doing the drum programming. The rest is my doing

Please let me know what you think!

Nice song - but long! (6:34) It really took off instrumentally at 5:48, but some people may not have the patience to wait that long.

As for the mix, the phaser is a little too out front for my taste - and there may be just too much of it anyway. It's a nice effect, but a little goes a really long way. I would like to hear more of that guitar work at the end, perhaps worked into the middle, behind a bridge or chorus.

Also, I wish you had posted the lyrics on Soundclick - it just makes it all easier to follow.

I don't want to sound too negative, because I really like the song and the recording. It just needs a little work in my opinion.

Your voice fits the song really well and sounds really nice!

Otherwise Tight, balanced mix... but the drums are too quiet and a little too far away.

I'd like to hear it with only 50% phaser. It steals too much intention from your voice now and I forget to listen to lyrics when the phaser is swirling around. It may also be that it's the phaser that ruins the drums... it's possible that they will be more up front if the phaser weren't so dominant.

And the almost U2 blends with GNR kick ass part at the end is amazing!

    Great voice man!

Phaser is also a bit too loud for my taste but the drums are ok for me..ok, a little bit more wouldn't hurt

You expressed yourself quite good in this song (sounded quite comfortable) and if it's 6,7, or 10 minutes..as long you have something to say and the whole thing develops, it's really cool.

And I hear/see that it's the case here, it's good and I think it was very interesting!!

If I had a radio station this song would be played twice a day

Thanks guys! Yeah I don't know what this project would be without Tim's voice- works so well for this type of thing.

I have to catch a plane in an hour and won't have my external hd with the files on it while I am in Seattle, but when I get back I will tone down the phaser, beef the drums up, and maybe bring the bass down slightly as well. Seems like I had it close, but needs fine-tuning.

Anyone care to guess what the guitar chain was on this?

That was a nice tune and refreshing to hear something a little different. I really liked your tone in the solo. Can you tell me a little bit about your gear?

Guitars were my schecter with the jazz set- the clean tone is the bridge split directly into my saffire pro and then I used the guitarsuite twin model and a software phaser as well. The neck was used on part of the finger picking bit in the middle.

The solo tone is the jazz bridge unsplit into the diamondplate model of a podxt via usb. I used some pretty heavey eq and verb on it to try to get rid of the nasal vibe it had. Glad you like it man- I wasn't totally satisfied with the sound.

Bass is a squire j-bass into podxt using the tube preamp model and 4x10 cab. I got most of the tone with waves c4 though, heh.

Dirty rhythm tone at end is podxt big bottom model run in with the saffire.

    That about covers everything eh?
