    Default Common Duncan coil winds?

Which Duncans share coil winds? As in the easiest example is the Custom line, all the same winds but with Ceramic for the Custom, A2 for the CC and A5 for the C5 (CCC ). What other Duncans are like this? Is the JB and Distortion common? Or was it the Invader and something else? (minus the 3 mags and massive pole pieces)

I really like your idea, I think we need, "A Family Tree of HB's" for the Vault. Some sort of diagram or chart that shows all the similar windings, mags, etc. and the differences and commonalities b/t the different models. It could be like an ultimate guide for Forum Bros wanting to mod. I'm in, but if this thread doesn't get any attention, I"ll start a new one. BTW the DD is a Jb with an oversized ceramic magnet. The diff one mag swap makes in that is astounding. It must be the biggest change from a mag swap in any model.

But don't believe anything unless it comes from Evan or someone else with some authority at Duncan.

People will try to tell you that the coil of this one and that one are identical and they say so only because the DC resistance is the same. Trust me, two coils can read identical and sound totally different because they are wound with a different pattern and tension. Or because the diameter of the wire can vary slightly from different wire mfr (or even from the same mfr) even for the same official gauge (42, 43, etc) or with variances in the thickness of the insulation. And all this is before any magnet swaps or 42 vs. 43 vs. 44 etc.

That's not to say that some Duncans models don't vary only by a magnet swap, because probably some do. But if you didn't wind it or the info didn't come directly from Duncan, it's all pure speculation based on nothing more someone than looking at the tone chart and seeing the same or very close DCR spec. It's like saying two airplanes are identical because they have the same length and wingspan.
In 1861 as the Confederate forces were about to fire on Fort Sumter, the blue and gray had infinitely more in common than the blue and red today. What fellowship can "the truth shall set you free" ever have with "there is no truth, only points of view", or "what is truth?"

Secession would be a horror. But barring a major national crisis like a Black Death magnitude epidemic or nuclear attack to erase once and for all the myth that truth is negotiable, it is coming.

Or it could be that you heard a rumor, tried it, and found it to be true. There was a rumor on here a number of years ago that the JB, Distortion, and Invader all use the same coils. After some experimentation, I accepted that it was true. So has more or less everybody else who's tried it.

For those of you unwilling to trust your ears, it was pretty much confirmed by higher ups.
Buy the book in my avatar. It's pretty cool.

Exactly, I believe a lot of people on here know whats up. I know each pickup even same model is a little different, but gererally speaking it would be nice to have it documented on here. The vets would have to come together and figure it out. Plus it might tone down thread repeats, if there was a thread in the vault we could refer to. I know this is prolly asking a lot, but it sure would be cool. It would be like the SD pickup mod specs bible.

It is unlikely that such a list would be tolerated. When the "confirmation" was made, it ruffled some feathers.

I've got no problem with such a thread, and it would probably cut down on the 59 = Jazz = A2Pro threads that crop up every 6 months or so. Just keep a cup or two of skepticism on a nearby shelf when you read it.

The Invader doesn't even use the same bobbin.
