Invader - "planetary invasion by hostile interplanetary forces" !

I hear mixed reviews on this. Postives are that they are brutal and tonally great with gain and the pole pieces are huge!! Negatives are that the Duncan Distortion is a better pickup than this and sounds less muddy and the Invader's pole pieces are huge!! lol Any thoughts?

And here is where most people screw up with hot pickups. Most guys seem to go "eh, too loud" and forget what those little knobs on the guitar do
Arite, do you play slide? I'm pretty sure I owned the same pickup you now have, and had a lot of fun with it in my Kramer playing slide. I also think that with the often forgotten volume and tone adjustments, it's a far superior jazz pickup than the Jazz.
FYI, the hex pole pieces that DiMarzio uses fit in the Invader.

That's a good pickup for slide, with a bunch of gain and the tone rolled back.

I'll try that . . . as soon as I'm done having fun.

I always thought the Invader was a bit under-rated. If you get one looking for the utlimate vintage tone, you'll be disappointed but if you take it for what it is, it's actually very cool. It's also an ideal candidate for Spin-A-Split or just old fashioned coil split.
And come to think of it, it probably would make a great slide guitar pickup...
In 1861 as the Confederate forces were about to fire on Fort Sumter, the blue and gray had infinitely more in common than the blue and red today. What fellowship can "the truth shall set you free" ever have with "there is no truth, only points of view", or "what is truth?"
Secession would be a horror. But barring a major national crisis like a Black Death magnitude epidemic or nuclear attack to erase once and for all the myth that truth is negotiable, it is coming.

I'll wire that up tomorrow. I might put a Screamin' Demon in the neck. Not sure.

Anyone remember rock music? Yeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!
I thought the invader was the best pickup ever for a few weeks, then I started hating the lack of sweetness. And the bland, characterless, tone.
It reminds me of a P-90 to a degree, it just doesn't have the character or sweetness.
It does sound amazing split though, give that a shot if you can.
If anyone is looking for an invader, shoot me a PM. I've had one boxed up and ready to ship for ever because someone backed out of the transaction.

Carvin custom strat (P-Rails/hotrails/single - Tuned Eb) -> Pod XT - - 6505+ Halfstack

Now you're making wish I gave it try! I was even going to put it in my single hb Patriot![]()

I know what you mean, but then again, I don't think was designed for "sweetness". I'm not sure I'd agree with bland and characterless though. Its almost like this was designed to push a distortion pedal.
Dang man . . . I was just looking at single-bridge-bucker Patriots on the bay for exactly that reason.
Great minds . . .![]()

Yeah, I saw it. Scanning eBay for Peaveys is what I do online 2nd only to hanging out here. Here's the kind I was looking for: (But not that color. That guy wants way too much for his custom paint jobs.)

I just tried the spin-a-split mod and while it was "ok", I didn't really think it was worth the trouble. Then I put in an on-off-on switch so I could split to either side. Now that, I love. The Invader is an amazing pup split. It seems to do a better job of single-coil chime than most others I've heard. Probably has somewhat to do with the fact that its in the bridge position, but now I have even more to love about this pup.
Oddball sidenote: At the same time that I bought this, I did a cable replacement for another forum bro, devilfish. I noticed that it came with the coils wired backwards relative to most Duncans. That is, black and white is the coil closest to the bridge and red and green is the coil closest to the neck. So, if you ground the red/white pair on an Invader, you get what would normally be the screw coil instead of the stud coil. Both coils are the same on an Invader but it might make a difference on the bridge pup where you'ld want to have the inside coil. At first, I thought I might have wired it wrong, but mine is the same way.
So . . . with an Invader, flip the pup in its mount, or short red/white to "hot" for the inside coil.
