Default Technical Question About S1 Wiring on Fender Strat Deluxe

    Guys howdy?

I was wondering about a particular question about the s1 wiring on Fender Strats with SCN or any other stacked pickups.

Say the lower part of the bridge bobin measures x ohms, and the upper y. Similarly, x' ohms for the lower part of the middle pickup bobin and y' for the upper part.

When the s1 is set to middle/bridge series position, is the total ohm x+y+x'+y' ? That is is all parts of the two bobins connected series? Or is it x + x' (I assume that still those suckers are RWRP, which might not very well be)? That is is only one part of one bobin connected in series with one part of the other bobin?

Actually the same question applies to the middle neck series connection as well.

I don't have any deluxes, so cannot do the measuring with a multimeter (via a cable connected to the jack, instead of opening it up).

    Best,

    B

i dont have any s1 guitars to look at either but i kinda assume that the pups themselves are always in series and when you put two pups in series you are getting all four coils.

it is possible that they split in the series mode but im guessing they would use the top coil not the bottom which would be y + y'

    Thanks Jeremy.

You are right, if split it'd rather be the top coil, hence y + y'.

Yet, I looked into the wiring diagram provided by Fender.

    http://www.fender.com/support/diagra...400_02APg2.pdf

I don't fully understand it because of the s1 switch, I don't know its particulars. Yet, as you can see all the greens are grounded, thus, I assume that the green is the ground, or I think a better term would be here chasis. The black of the middle pickup is also grounded and the yellow wire from the middle pickup is connected to the s1 switch.

Thus, assuming that in the third position with the S1 off, the middle pickup is in series (which should be the case no), thus green and black are ground and yellow hot.

Thus, I believe you are right. All that the s1 is doing is send the blacks of the neck and bridge to the ground when the s1 is down, and send them to the associated position in the superswitch when its on.

    Cool!

Is there anybody who could confirm these?
