    Default Grounding help

im new to this electronics stuff. i mean ive installed an invader before and changed my friends pickups to emgs while installing 4 new pots and a new jack, but im building a custom guitar and i have an issue. I know the ground goes to the bridge, in this case the tailpiece stud of a tune-o-matic. but is there anywhere else i can put it? like for example, emg's dont need a ground to the bridge.....

i dont know. it seems like getting a set of emgs would be much, much easier as they come with all the wires you need and stuff, but i rather have a custom custom.

Make a small channel from the control cavity to either the bridge stud hole or the tailpiece stud hole. Run the wire through it channel and in the stud hole, make sure the exposed wire is tinned well. I'm not sure how it's affixed but you could probably just make sure it's clamped in their securely between the wood and the stud and be fine.

In other words, no, it has to go to one of the studs.

thank you very much. i already have the hole to the stud drilled, i just wasnt sure if there was another option. i wanted to play the gutiar now! hahahaha now i got to wait for my iron to either magically fix it self or buy a new one.

does anyone know for certain if i can just clamp it between the wood and stud or does it have to be soldered on?

ive found it really difficult to get it soldered to the stud and then fit the stud in place without breaking the solder joint. Usually i will just make sure its wedged in there good and proper. the stud should be a fairly tight fit into the mounting hole so you shouldnt have to worry about it coming loose.

the point made above about it being well tinned is important though. if your mounting studs are hollow you might have more luck soldering it to the inside

does the grounding wire have to be one of those shielded ones? like as in, braided on the outside with metal?

No, it's just a plain wire
