Default Full Hollow Metal? Help me out.

Hey, just traded one of my schecters for an epi joe pass full hollow (for the hell of it). Sounds pretty good for jazz, but plugged it into my metal setup and it actually sounded pretty **** good, and feedback was manageable (although it wouldn't be live). I've been wanting to get new pups for it anyways, I was gunna go with SH-2n/SH-1b, but now I'm kinda thinking.

What if I went with blackouts? Would it make the feedback even worse? Anybody ever tried anything like this? And what about a high-output passive, like a JB, Dimebucker, or Drop-Sonic?

    Any opinions helpful, thanks.

Ted Nugent used a Gibson Byrdland to play hard rock in the 70's.
I don't think he was using hot pickups, and I'm almost sure he never used actives. Probably just the stock Gibson pickups.

You might be the guy who brings back using hollow body jazz boxes for heavy music!

well actually there are a few people using artcores and the like for heavy music already, mostly just to chug power chords for the massive low end.

But theres something really cool sounding about playing this guitar through heavy distortion and using real chords. (non-5ths.) The guitar has definition between notes and a lot of "pop", as well as a singing sort of quality, its almost symphonic, in a metal sort of way. The low-end chugging doesn't actually sound that good, but i'm guessing its because of the lower output pups.

I have a JB in a Wasburn J9 and it sounds nice. I have a Brobucker in a Washburn HB32 and it kicks.

Might sound a little bland or generic, but maybe not.

I also have a DOT that has a CC bridge and a Alnico Pro II in the neck and it's very versatile, not metal per se but a great sounding semi for rock.

Any time I've tried to use a hollow body for heavy work, getting enough gain out of weak pickups always ended in severe feedback.

But if I got some hot pickups, I didn't have the problem. I know this is the opposite of most people's thinking but that's just how it worked for me.

I would be weary of actives in a hollow body though.

Also, if you're getting a lot of feedback, try stuffing the body with opencell foam, it'll help with a lot of it.

Wont that also kill some of the "hollow" feel?

It's pretty impossible to kill the "Hollow feel" in a hollow body guitar. It'll kill the acoustic volume, but it should still sound pretty much the same plugged in.
