Default Phat Cat bridge in the neck?

i want a raunchy sounding guitar, and basically i almost want two bridge sounds. i know it sounds dumb but i pretty much only ever use the bridge, so it would be more efficent for me to have two bridge sounds. i was thinking a phat cat, but im afraid that a phat cat neck in the neck would be too warm and nice sounding. i was thinking what if i put a phat cat bridge into my neck spot? would it give me the sound of a hotter, brighter, more ballsy phat cat n?

just the opposite. the reason the bridge pup sounds the way it does is the location near the bridge. the bridge version of the pup is hotter and less bright than the neck so putting that pup in the neck will give you a fatter, darker, rounder tone than a neck version in the same position

Here's a thought: go ahead and put another Phat Cat in the neck, (neck version), and use a simple on-off switch to turn it on. That is, hardwire the bridge so its on all the time, and then just add the neck in parallel. That would give you two very cool sounds that keeps within the spirit of what you're asking. Nice, simple, clean design.

What about a Phat Cat bridge in the middle position?

Hey that is GREAT info . . . i never knew that !

So if i want a more "mellow" tone than my stock neck pu in X guitar i should drop a bridge pu in the neck pos - is that correct ?

Not usually, because the bridge p/u is wound hotter. In most cases it gets too muddy, unless it's a lower output bridge p/u.

So one can still do it, "IF" the bridge pu (that is going into the neck pos) is LOWER/less hot than the stock bridge pu that is allready in the bridge pos.

Wow, can you follow that ?

That's been my experience and other posts on here seem to agree. It's always fun to experiment though.
