Why don't you take your little Cobra Kais and get outta here?!
You guys forgot to answer my question on how good the "Fostex MR-8 Digital Recorder" is...

Dunno about the Fostex. Love the Yamaha, tho ...

First on the Fostex, it is a neat unit. Seems pretty well made and the sound quality is pretty darn good. Compared to the pocket recorders, it is a butt kicker but compared to something with a hard disk it comes up short. You'll go through a decent amount of flash cards unless you constantly backup and restore from a PC. IF you are looking to record a band with it you'll need a few 512MB cards, uncompressed .wav audio uses up space pretty quickly. For personal demos and as a songwriting tool it should serve you very well.
Demos - Guitar - Boss Amp Factory - SB Audigy - Guitar Track Pro2
Real Deal - Guitar - AMP - SM57 - Tascam Porta2488 or studio board
The SM57 is easy to set up but it generally gets a sound that I am finding too focused for anything other than lead work lately. I'm going to try the Beta 57 but I am looking for some other suggestions.
TO - How do you like using the Blue Ball? I thought that was more for a kick drum or a bass amp? I want one just cause it is so cool, never thought of it as a guitar mic before.

I love it! A '57 is sooo wooly compared to the BLUE. What's cool about the BLUE is that it's hand built and altho it's a dynamic mic, it takes phantom power. So, it's incredibly linear in its frequency response. Sometimes I like to double up and use a '57 as well, but the BLUE basically blows it away. The midrange is very flat and the mic is really transparent. I'm using it on all of the guitar tracks for my album. It has a maximum SPL of 160dB, so you can really punish it. I also used the BLUE on the 4x10 for the bass tracks, but I used a '57 on the 1x15.Originally Posted by Wattage

Forgot to mention ... a couple of people on the forum have heard the raw guitar tracks with the BLUE, so they can tell you their impressions as well ...

I just bought (and am enjoying) the Tascam US-122 USB mixer.
I'm going to be getting in a Shure SM57 mic soon to run through it and into my Toshiba laptop loaded with Cool Edit Pro 2.0
