Has anyone wound their own pickup, i have a few crap-buckers laying around and want to make my own pickups just to mess around with, hopefully one day getting THE tone, however unlikely. Does anyone have experience, tips, anything...

I did 1 coil by hand which took me about 8 hours lol.. and the other coil was a working dimarzio paf... I am currently tweaking it.. taking of a few winds, etc.

As you get more proficient with the move, you'll get it down to about 90 minutes.
I'm smiling but no, I'm not kidding...
In 1861 as the Confederate forces were about to fire on Fort Sumter, the blue and gray had infinitely more in common than the blue and red today. What fellowship can "the truth shall set you free" ever have with "there is no truth, only points of view", or "what is truth?"
Secession would be a horror. But barring a major national crisis like a Black Death magnitude epidemic or nuclear attack to erase once and for all the myth that truth is negotiable, it is coming.

You don't specifically say so, but if your intentions are to rewind your "crap-buckers" my advice is: don't bother. For a very modest amount of money you can buy new, quality parts and will end up with a better pickup.
I wound a coil by hand once out of morbid curiosity...I'll stick to my winder.
Like Jeremy said, seacrh around. There is a lot of good info out there.
Good luck!
