    Default JB with A2 magnet

Guys I've been given a JB trembucker with an A2 fitted.

My mate specially ordered it that way.
He says it makes it the perfect all round bridge humbucker but decided not to use it.

Has anyone tried this combination ?

I'm thinking of having it installed in a Strat I'm having built at the moment, so need urgent opinions please, before i send it to the builder.

    Thanks

Never tried one, but sounds interesting...the A2 would smooth it out a bit, wouldn't it?

If I am not mistaken that is Seymour's personal favorite way to have a JB. Run a search and you will many happy users of such a mod.

A couple of months ago (more like a year or so) I had called the custom shop and was talking with MJ about this. I swear to my dying day that she told me that is how they used to make the JB (with an A2 mag). I then heard this voice in the background saying, "Yeah, that's how I have mine". I asked MJ who was that in the background and she said it was Seymour. I then did a magnet swap and posted the results here (have to do a search) but then Evan "corrected" me by saying that the JB always had an A5 in it and stated that the pickup I was referencing was a Bug-Sey bucker and it can be ordered from the custom shop. You will see in the post (if you find the right one) what Evan was referencing also. I stand by what I heard on the phone.

I tried my JB with an A2 and it sounded better than the A5; however, right now I have an A8 in it; the greater output and more agressive tone are a better fit than the "greasiness" of the A2 for now...

Best magnet in a JB I've heard.

I have an A8 JB, and it has a very nice full clean alnico tone, but is very tight and articulate under distortion as well.

I've been wanting to try an A2 JB for the longest time. I'd be interested in how tight it is under distortion, and how it adjusts with a little degaussing.

THAT is exactly what I'm looking for.

I'm interested as well. This place has got me hooked ...Think I want to get some magnets and try a few JB and more Custom variants.

I've already got two Custom Custom Trembuckers going in two of the four guitars I'm swapping pickups in (which are 1-piece bodied Ash and Koa H/S Floyded Charvel/Musikraft and Warmoth Strats, with maple and ebony 'boards respectively, btw), and I've pretty much made up my mind I'm trying an Alt 8 in my Ash single-hum maple necked mutt Charvel baby, but I have H/H one more that's going to become the true "guinea pig" as it were...assuming I end up liking the first three choices in all applications...

Looks like I have to snap up a JB and a Custom5 Trembucker on Ebay, and and A2 and A8 from Wymore...

Hey, while we're on the subject, and since I've yet to try the swap-thing - it IS one magnet per pickup usually, yes?

Yes, one magnet/pickup. The A2 Jb is definitely looser than the A8 (or A5 for that matter) JB. Not as loose as a CC though (in my recollection).

To me, it's like a grainier sounding JB. I did this clip with an A2-JB in Les Paul bridge, through a Marshall reissue amp: A2 JB clip

Thanks for the info. Loose is not necessarily what I'm looking for. Uh-oh. May have to slap A8's in both of these CCs if that's the case? Or perhaps an A5 first, but that's a whole 'nother thread...

One thing I notice in Stevo's clip with the A2 JB is you can definitely (or at least it seems) hear the note articulation of the pickup on chords, and the bottom-end sounds tight, which is what I'm shooting for, but will be using a tad bit more gain at times, and most of the guitars I'm working on have Ebony or Maple Fretboards, and are fairly 'tight' sounding acoustically already due to the body woods & the improvement I've noticed since I Big-Blocked all my Floyds...
SO many options...and I was already in mad-scientist mode of late with my gear..
