Mine was a Kingston acoustic guitar. I learned to play Gloria and a bunch of chords on that guitar.![]()

'Twas a red solidbody with a white pickguard, 2 single-coil Epiphone that I used to play Metallica on!
'Twas so cheap it literally only said "Epi" on the headstock. Though in the son's inspiring namesake... still. Come on. You literally get what you pay for.![]()

My first guitar was a Yamaha nylon string. I couldn't tell you know if it was a good classical or not. At the time I looked at it as an inferior instrument, regardless of whether it was or not. I kind of wish I still had it.
My first electric... not long ago I found the original sales receipt for my first electric guitar and amplifier.![]()

Samick Strat copy, green body, white stratch plate, SSS config. Oh man, am I glad I sold that thing!

No kidding. I got the same one from the Sears catalog for $169.
My first couple were garage sale acoustics, then I got that Effectron. I used it with a Peavey Studio Pro 40 1-12 combo......with the "Saturation" gain knob.
Also an MXR Dist + and DOD Chorus.
Those were the humble beginnings of this madness!Around 83/84. I liked the guitar because Scorpions were popular that year.
Remember those FX?

My first guitar was a "Stella" brand silverburst acoustic. I think it used to belong to my uncle in the 60s. No idea what happened to it. But it sucked.
My next guitar was a "Carlos" brand acoustic. That wasn't too bad, it sounded good and played good. I sold it because I thought it was too "beginner." I'm a dumbass.
My first electric was a Kalamazoo Strat knockoff. That thing sucked like you would not believe. Suck doesn't even begin to explain how much that guitar sucked.
My first "real" electric was an old Telecaster Custom. That guitar sucked only slightly less than the Kalamazoo. When I hear of people gassing for these, I laugh a little inside. No, I laugh a lot.
I probably should cry. I could sell that POS guitar that I got for $300 to them for a few thousand and THEN laugh a lot. Suckers.

it only took me 13 years to get one.

My first bass guitar was a Gibson Ripper I bought from Kevin, the Basslines
chief engineer--a looooong time ago! Looked just like this:
Great bass for a starter, nice glued neck joint. A little pricy for a beginner,
but I had just quit smoking and suddenly had more disposable income
Strangely, the pickups were stock Gibsons. I spent a lot of hours with that
thing before selling it to get a new bass. Wish I still had it!

An old GTX from Kaman Music. I think like a 33 or a 56 model, in the marble finish with a crappy floyd.
I never fly because the Lord said: "Low, and I will be with thee."

My first guitar was some Tiwan made accoustic guitar. My parents bought it for my sis,bro and me when I was around 7, we were in the gulf then I never learnt to play on that guitar. Plus when transporting that guitar to Bombay the soundboard got damged. It was fixed but the action was always too high with no truss rod to adjust. The guitar was still around until I was 17. It got lost after that at friends place after a small jam up. My second guitar was a Jumbo accoustic that I got when I was 12. The head stock says JUMBO, a small stamp inside the guitar says Manufactured by the JUMBO MUSCIAL INSTRUMENTS. I still have this guiatr very very beautifull made of brazilain Rosewood. This guitar was over 10-15 years old when I got it, from a cousin who had alot of guitars around. This was the guitar on whihc I learnt. I am never selling this guitar.
My first electric guitar was a cheapo Flying V carapy pups but avery resonant wood, and very light. I can litraly pick it up with 3 fingers. I had origanly put the JB in this guitar. I have this lying around still . It needs pups. I am thinking of puting the Ibanez pups from the SA120 in it.

Jonny that's a pretty wicked first guitar!

HAHA same here! I played on that thing for about a year and then my dad let me use his Aria Pro II Stray Cat electric. I thought both of those guitars were pretty sweet :P After my freshman year in HS my dad bought me an American Standard Strat which I still have and play. The first guitar that I actually bought and paid for is my Cort MGM-1000, I picked it up on EBay for $300 because I wanted the EMG's and figured I could do something with the rest of the guitar...turns out it plays sweet and is my #1 now...

Yeah, my parents got it for me when I was about 7 or 8 I guess. Before that I had learned on a Baritone Ukulele. They bought this from a friend, I think for about $60 or so...It's a 1960s German Arnold Hoyer.
It mainly stays in its case these days. I need to get it set up sometime.

I had a Marlin Sidewinder like this one, but in silver-grey ...
