Question about SD invader

I just bought invader, but im wondering if this pup can be split to single coil??

I believe that any pickup with 4 conductor wiring can be split. I'm not sure how well the invader will sound as a single but you should be able to do it.

The Invader split to single, or switched to parallel is one of Seymours best kept secrets. In parallel, it will run with any vintage PAF all day long. More open and airy to boot. Its fantastic. I may just wire my Invader in permanent parallel. Maybe with a "turbo" series switch.

One small caution though: I've done only two Invaders now. My own, and one for someone else. Both pickups had the coils reversed. That is, if you tie red and white to ground, you get the coil closest to the bridge rather than the normal vice-versa. You may want to check that, and flip the Invader in its mount, or short red/white to black to get the "proper" coil when split.

That's exactly what happened with my dimarzio paf pro and paf joe. When i flick to position 2 and 4 they sound horrible. It is think, low on volume and nasally kinda sound. The tech said the coil is wound 'reversed' but they didnt know how to fix it. You think by flipping the pickup up and down may cure this problem?

Possible, but that sounds more like reverse-phase than what I'm talking about. If an Invader had stud and screw coils, its like they got the red/green and white/black wires on the wrong coils. But since both Invader coils are the same, you just physically rotate the pup in the guitar. Or short red/white to black. Neither operation has any affect on phase.

When you say #2 and #4, is this in a dual-humbucker guitar with a 5-way? Or something else?

Alrite, i've ibanez dual humbucker 5 way switch. The 1st, 3rd (sort of) and 5th position alrite. But the 2nd and 4th are horrible. I have other dimarzio's (tonezone, airzone, fast track) and they are fine, just these 2 are having problem with. The tech said any guitar pickup (duncan, dimarzio, etc) may have this problem and the only pickup that doesnt is EMG (which is active). I dont want active I prefer passive for my guitar. So thats the whole story

The reason why i chose sd invader (neck and bridge) is because i like the tones and If it might have a problem (like dimarzio) i may get away with position 1,3 and 5. But im hoping that i wont

Like Artie said, it's hard for us to comment without seeing how it's wired up, but I'm confident that you'll be able to get better sounds out of it with a change in wiring configuration. Are you able to take a photo of the wiring in the electronics compartment for us?

I've used the Invader with a Distortion neck before, I actually liked it in parallel.

The tech sounds like he's BSing a bit... the #2 and #4 positions of any pickup combination can sound bad, but all it takes is a change of wiring to get better sounds.

Like Artie said, it's hard for us to comment without seeing how it's wired up, but I'm confident that you'll be able to get better sounds out of it with a change in wiring configuration. Are you able to take a photo of the wiring in the electronics compartment for us?

What don't you like about the sounds at #2 and #4 at the moment? Are they buzzy? Hollow-sounding?

I'll do that when i get home today.
2nd and 4th position sounds 'really thin', nasally and hmmm out of phase, it is very inconsistent with the other configuration.

I would love to do it myself but im afraid i would make it more worse than it is.

I've just looked the diagram for the ibanez pickup configuration. Hmmm, it looks like it is paralel.

Sorry noobs question here, is the parallel setting different than the single coil split??
