I'm thinking of getting a Seymour Duncan 78 with a 4 conductor wire. I know most of them have a single conductor. Does it make a difference in the sound? I just want the 4 conductor wire in case I decide to split the coil later on.

No difference in sound. It's a good idea to get 4 conductor whenever you can, so you have the option to do alternative wiring, whether now or later. Many aftermarket HB's are 4 conductor. For whatever reason, Gibson has 4 in their aftermarkets, but single in their guitars.
