    Default GFS Pickups

    Anybody use them?

Considering installing some GFS Retrotron's in my Gretsch Pro Jet as the budget definitely won't stretch to TV Jones's.

Heard some good things about them. For the price? Why not?

I have some retrotrons in my Ibanez Artcore.

They're ok. Generic low output humbuckers with funky covers. They don't sound like Filtertrons to me.

The pickup budget ain't ever going to stretch to $450 I

Just want a little step up from the woolly mini hums that are in there now. I've looked at the SD range but I'd have to have surgery on the guitar and install those pickup surrounds to cover the gaps and they look hideous

Listen to their sound samples on the Guitarfetish website and judge for youreself. I like the way the Nashville hot and Liverpool sound. I have two sets of their Bigmouths and love them.

fair enough ... but then again, with the way the dollar is fallin' against the euro, it won't be too long

i agree about the surrounds ... simply wouldnt do

i am sure that the GFS's will get you further down the road

Keep an eye out, you can score used sets of TV Jones pups for about half the going rate for a new set, $150 or so for a pair. Well worth it if you ask me.

I've heard GFS isn't bad, but me personally, I'd always still be longing for real TV Jones and while maybe it would be all in my head, just would always feel my tone is lacking

"Grass is always greener on the other side" type of mentality I guess LOL

But hey, you get the TV Jones and you can rest assured theres nothing out there that sounds better

the gfs singles are actually really nice pups, ive heard very good things about their humbucker sized p90s too. their buckers however, leave a little to be desired. ive never tried the filtertrons so i cant help you out there

I reckon the Kent Armstrong Filtertron-a-like is a better bet than the GFS if you can't stretch to the real ones. Much better looking too.

Look interesting but do you know if they're mini hum size?

Have looked again at TV's but even if I get them from over the pond with VAT, Import duty shipping & handling charges from the courier I'm looking at the best parts of $380 and I'm not sure I'd want to spend that much on this guitar, not really sure its a keeper yet.
