Secondly, I concur with PoorMan. Cops are doing a difficult (sometimes deadly) job and as a general rule, they do it with professionalism and pride. My hat's off to anybody in law enforcement. Yeah, you can run into a bad cop -- just like you can run into a bad lawyer, doctor, teacher, politician... wait, they're all bad. However, just because I happened to have gotten a quack doctor in the ER doesn't mean I'm about swear off the entire medical establishment as being irrelevant and irresponsible.
It's just a difference in philosophy.

"To believe your own thought, to believe that what is true for you in your private heart is true for all men, -- that is genius. Speak your latent conviction, and it shall be the universal sense; for the inmost in due time becomes the outmost,---- and our first thought is rendered back to us by the trumpets of the Last Judgment. Familiar as the voice of the mind is to each, the highest merit we ascribe to Moses, Plato, and Milton is, that they set at naught books and traditions, and spoke not what men but what they thought."

My town has one of the highest amount of cops per capita of any town in the nation. One of the problems here is that there just isn't a lot of crime, so cops get bored. And then you have the issue of "they're just enforcing the law", but sometimes they do it on a black-and-white basis when the case should be looked at individually. But in order to have your case looked at individually by a competent attorney, you have to drop big bucks.

Violent crimes, theft, domestic disputes, keeping the peace, that's all fine. But sometimes they overstep their boundaries on traffic stops. Maybe if we had mandatory drivers license re-testing every 5 or 10 years, instead of once when you're a kid and never again, people would be more inclined to drive safely. Handing out tickets like candy doesn't make anyone drive better long-term, it just pisses them off.

Who wants to argue with me? Bring it on! Just kidding. I'm letting off some steam, I know we owe a lot to our police for keeping our towns safe, so I hope I haven't offended anybody. Nothing's perfect... laws, the justice system, policemen, or anybody on this planet. Just be safe and don't hurt anybody.

Instead of going to his supervisors and making stuff up (a most manly endeavor, Frank Lee must admit), try waiting until the cop's wife goes into a convenience store and then squirt some mustard on her minivan.

    Thank you.

You may not have deserved 5 tickets, but you deserved a couple and your attitude probably didn't help your situation.

It's not about what you deserve. Only you were there and know all the particulars. It's the blanket statement that you made about cops and the fact that I agreed with Poormans assessment that if you or your loved ones needed the help of the police, you'd have a different attitude.

And for the record, I'm not a cop.

I don't see it that way. Pot shots can be annoying and it's a form of trolling.

I know that's what you were referring to but the word "deserved" isn't what I would consider it! There is the law and there is the spirit of the law. If law was just rules in a book we wouldn't need judges to interpret them. So my front license plate broke off. I still had the back license plate on and had the front license plate in my back seat.

So he could have just let me go with a warning on that but he chose to throw the book. So this cop exepects for everyone to take the tickets he gives out and say thank you for doing your job officer? I don't think I "deserved" the tickets. I can't argue that they are valid tickets but whether I deserved them is up to interpretation.

That's a different matter entirely. I wasn't disputing whether or not he went overboard. My point was that I took offense to your blanket statements about law enforcement. To which I said I resepctfully disagree.

But these laws aren't subjective. Either your licence plate is where it belongs or it isn't. You were speeding or you weren't.

This will be my last post in this thread.
