does your iphone go back to the homescreen spontaneously when you are surfing the net?

It happens sometimes. It generally means Safari has crashed. Since the version of Safari on the iPhone isn't a full version it will have issues from time to time if it encounters something it doesn't know how to deal with. Usually Flash stuff. I've had it happen from time to time but it's usually linked to the web page I'm on.

I had a dead spot on my screen yesterday and had to take it to the "Genius Bar". They replaced it, no questions asked. Sweet :-)

I've only seen the issue you described once or twice since I've had my phone.

I've had that twice with two different iPods. The battery in my touch died on Friday morning and that afternoon I took it in and they asked what happened and what had I done to try to remedy the situation. After I explained what happened, they swapped it out. ANother time I had a row of dead pixels on a 80GB and they swapped it out no questions.
